Turn off leveler alarm

I recently bought an 05 Damon Daybreak on a Workhorse chasis and I have a question about the leveler alarm. Is there a way to turn it off without taking the dash apart and unplugging it!? I've tried hitting the on/off button, pressing and holding the same, pressing it quickly...just about everything.

When we bought our RV from Mount Comfort there was some concern about the rear levelers hanging pretty low. Researching this I found that they do look low but after buying the RV I found out that they're way TOO low. They should be about 6-9 inches off the ground. They're 3 1/2 inches off the ground when retracted Thanks Mount Comfort

So now when I take off I have to listen to that bleeping alarm until it finally decides it has given up on me pulling over to investigate.

Rather than turning it off, why not have the levelers fixed before they catch on something and tear up your coach. It will be much cheaper to to fix than replace once you snag one on a curb, driveway apron or similar.

If you just need to silence the alarm for the drive to the repair shop, try pulling the fuse.

They may just need some cleaning and lubricant on the piston shaft. With them in the extended position, clean and then lubricate with a light oil, ATF, dry silicone spray or similar product, then cycle them several times. If need be a scotch-brite pad can be used to clean them up.
It may also be that the return springs are weak and need replacing.

A little more info would help like the manufacture of the jacks. The alarm should only be sounding if the jacks are not up all of the way. Disconnecting the alarm does not solve the problem it only lets you ignore the problem. Good Luck JP

I had the same problem with the alarm on my '99 Pace Arrow.
Found out that when they replaced a bad cylinder, they forgot to refill the resivor and everytime I turnerd a corner, the alarm went off. We topped off the fluid (with a Turkey Baster) we haven't had any more problems.
Check the fluid with your finger if you can't see into it. Mine was in the darndest spot and took me about a week of rolling in the mud to find it and how to get to it.
Good Luck

My guess is that it's something more than cleaning them. I paid Mount Comfort a mandatory $499 prep fee and they did say that they had to work on one of the jacks not retracting all the way. From what they told me that had to replace one of the springs on the back jack. They're both about 3 1/2 inches off of the ground.

I have no idea who makes the jacks. Aren't they all the same for the same chassis? I don't see info for the jacks on the front info card.

I do need to bring our "home" in to a Workhorse dealer and have it looked over though. I need them to check out the brakes too.

Just had our leveling jacks repaired. Things to think about: The springs may be weak. The leveler motor/hydrolic may be faulty. Something may be stuck.
Our problem happened while traveling, and the warning buzzer drove me crazy for a couple of hundred miles. I was then shown how to disconnect the electric lead to each jack. A simple two lead plug near each jack.
This information was presented with the warning that without the buzzer, if the jack moves down, it can severly damage the welds and jack.
Good luck.

If they are Power Gear jacks you need to find the hydraulic reservoir and check the fluid level. On mine the alarm will sound when the hydraulic fluild is low. Also, they will hang lower. On the power gear jacks you can disconnect the warning buzzer at the reservoir. DO NOT ADD OIL with JACKS DOWN. Mine use Dextron III. Look at the jacks, they may have a sticker on them saying who made them.
Also as others said clean them, I use a spray silicon and wipe them clean. Do not use WD-40.

Davedoc: NO, the jacks are not necessarily the same because they are not provided by the chassis maker, but rather are chosen and installed by the coach builder. The most commonly used brands are: HWH, Power Gear, Atwood, etc. and the push button panel used to deploy & store them "should" have a name on it. The alarm is likely to continue sounding until all four are fully retracted, and you may have one that is slower than the others if it eventually stops after you get going. Sometimes the alarm will begin again after the oil inside a jack heats up while travelling and pushes it off the switch. If that happens, pressing the store button should allow it to fully retract again and silence the alarm.

You can certainly have the Workhorse dealer work on them, but they were not part of the chassis Workhorse sold to Damon. If your chassis is a W20,21, or 22 then you need to determine if it still needs to have the Bosch Brake Caliper recall completed. If yours is a P32 chassis, there is NO recall. Ed

Thank you for the responses guys. I looked at the dash info tag and it's a P32032 chassis. So, no brake caliper recall on this one.

On the dash leveling system it says I have a PowerGear leveler. I verified this by finding the same sticker on my front levelers. I'm going to try pulling the jacks up this weekend and topping off the hydraulic fluid tank.

Hi Everyone

I'm DaveDoc wife. And I'd really like to know WHAT that $499.00 prep fee covered. Duct tape? Because everything seemed to fall apart about 50 miles out of town!

No pun intended but they didn't do jack to the jacks!

I would suggest that question be addressed to the seller.

My answer: $499.00 additional profit.

FYI, we have another active member here. He is MAX49 and posts often in the Workhorse forum. Like you, he has an 05 Damon Daybreak on a P32.

You may want to compare notes with Max regarding the clearance issues with your jacks.
