UP-like Chip for Altitudes?

This is probably peeing into the wind but a question unasked is never answered. I have the UP and I'm very happy with it at altitudes below 5,000'. However, much of my travelling is in the Rockies and I frequently go above 10,000' (tomorrow I attempt to go over Monarch Pass at 11,000'+). I understand that the higher the altitude the less the power, but is there anything that can be done to improve the power situation at altitudes other than going to diesel or add a Banks?

Turbocharger system is the only thing that will make a noticeable difference at high altitudes.

Denny,

Don't worry about Monarch Pass. I have gone over it several times. Once was pre-UP. When you get above 9 to 10,000 there is a drop in power, but you will get over the top in a few minutes and be on the way down. Just watch your down hill speed. Stop at the top and enjoy the view!

Monarch Pass was on my route last October to Chama, NM. Speed just before cresting the top was 15-20 MPH (stock W-24 chassis) with an occasional shift into 1st. I was outfitted for normal travel, towing a 2008 Honda CRV.

The downhill side was one of the more challenging I've been on in that the road was a bit curvy. My more normal mountain driving is through Eisenhower Tunnel and over Vail pass, both relatively straight up and down.

One thing I was very happy with was my previous decision to install an auxiliary braking system on the CRV; creates a confident feeling when braking!

You will lose 2% to 3% HP per 1,000' of altitude and as Jon a Turbo is about the only thing that will fix this problem.

On a hill like Monarch Pass even the diesels have trouble. If there had been any trucks you'd most likely been passing them. The only ones that don't get passed are empty loads.
