My MH is on a 2002 W22. It is parked in the garage on a level floor. I last used it in mid October. Due to recent surgery I was unable to get into the coach to exercise the engine & Onan. On Friday, after a 2 month absence, about noon after the outside temperature rose to +20 I decided to fire it up. I started the engine and let it run while I raised the jacks. After about 5 minutes I tried to shift from park to drive to run it outside. I could not budge the shifting lever. I tried everything I could think of and finally while stepping on the brake, pulling on the lever, and switching off the ignition switch it came out of park. It took several tries. I ran it outside and warmed up the engine & Onan. I backed it into the garage and put it in park and shut off the engine. I than restarted the engine and again I could not get it out of park. I repeated my prior efforts and finally got it out of park. I shut it off in neutral for fear of having to call a wrecker and haul it 80 miles to a dealer.
I called Workhorse and explained my situation and their answer was " You have a problem". I already knew that. I asked what I might be able to do to fix it and they told me to take it to a Workhorse service center.
On Friday night I did a search for posts relating to the problem and printed out posts where others have had a similar problems. Sometime in about a month when it is not to cold I will go out and check out some options.
I would welcome any thoughts you folks would have on this situation.
Thanks;
Don

your problem is in the shift interlock, its a sfety fuction so you can't shift with out your foot on the brake. first look for blown chassis fuses, then give a good inspection for mice eating wires, located on the colunm is a solenoid with a brass looking button if you press that button you should be able to shift. so you don't get stuck, if the vehicle is under warrenty have it fix by work horse but evry thing from seems to take a long time, dealing with thier parts is a real pain, if no warrenty call area chevy delears and ask if they can help you.

Disconnect 2-wire harness from shift lock-out solenoid. Solenoid is located at 10 o'clock and six to ten inches from floorboard on the steering column. If you still cannot shift out of park you have bent the relay rod which travels from the solenoid to a location hole wthin the shifter and will have to physically pull the rod down. Sometimes the rod can begin to bind when one forgets to depress the brake pedal before shifting. Stepping on the brake operates a switch which energizes the solenoid. This switch may be faulty if you find the relay rod is free to travel. I hope I've covered all the possibilities and wish you Good Luck!!

My does this all the time. Have someone depress the brake peddle while you check to see the brake lights come on, if they don't there is a interlock switch on the left side of the steering column and it can get out of adjustmet. sometime I just grab the wiring on the shift column and shake it then all is well for a few more times. Sometimes I just stay where I'm for a few more day and then it works. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It is the positive and quick response from you folks that makes IRV2 such a valuable site. I am still in rehab but as soon as I am able to lay on the floor and check things out I will do do. I will also post my findings and solutions.
My DW thinks I am addicted to IRV2 because I am on it every day. I told her I have learned more here than I did in school. For the past 6 weeks it was this site that helped me keep my sanity while confined to the house.
Again thanks so much;
Don

Kieth;
Thanks for asking. I only live a block from City Hall and our Administrator came to the house for lunch and brought with her any necessary communication. My DW fed her so well that she was hoping I would be laid up a long time. (I gave her cheese) Thankfully now I can drive the car and move about carefully. We are getting lots of snow & ice so I must be very careful.

Today while in South Georgia, I had the same problem. A call to Roadside Service and transfered to Workhorse Tech Service, I was talked thru a corrective action......which follows...
Remove the key from the Ignition switch, reinsert the key, turn to the acc position, press the brake pedal and pull the gear selector lever into neutral . Then start the engine. This resets the circuit that controls the PARK BRAKE lock circuit.
The tech suggested a check by a WH Service Center to be sure.

When I first bought my coach the Dealer mech said they all work that way they are hard to release when new. So much for that dealer.
I always found when I had this problem was to lift the shift lever up out of Park with foot on brake pedal and do the reverse when putting into Park.
I have to remind myself of this after a long non-driving spell.
