Using OD in the Rockies question

evening up'er. we used to be from north central wisconsin.
on the road now for about 15 months. since we are pretty new with our new house i have a couple questions about the right way to use the overdrive. the workhorse manual we got with it covers the workhorse chassis from 1999- 2006. in the manual it shows the overdrive positions reversed compared to our switch on the dash, but my question is how would you set up your overdrive for driving thru the rockies pulling a toad? we have the 6 speed allison transmission. appreciate your input

I just leave mine in the OD position, sometimes I'll click it down to 5th to pull a hill a bit better.

I leave the overdrive switch in the non-lockout position on and the engine brake switch on. Sometimes I will engage the overdrive lockout when I know that the engine will need to stay down one gear just to prevent additional shifting.

My manual said to turn the overdrive off when going up grades if it was downshifting a lot because of grade changes. Didn't have to do that very often.
