Have a Itasca 38T. The inboard rear wheels have a valve stem extension (rubber hose) that goes thru a rubber grommet in the outer wheel. It has bolts on both sides of rubber grommet to keep it in place. This summer, my grommet apparently slipped out and one nut came undone causing the rubber grommet to part company. The hose flipped back and forth with wheel revolution and eventually was cut, causing loss of air. Result was ruined tire. Has anyone done any replacement of this rubber hose & grommet?

I use metal braided valve stem extenders on a Crossfire device. Not sure what could have cut your hose. Does the opening where the hose is routed have sharp edges?

I would suggest you call Dually Valves for solid metal replacement with no need for extensions. OBTW, they still use the rubber grommet as a safety measure.

See their ad in the back of FMCA magazine.

I use braided extensions, protected by split vinyl hose, sliped around the extensions. The vinyl hose is secured with electrical tie straps.

I simply had a tire repair man replace the short metal stem (to which the extension hose is attached) with a metal valve stem long enough to reach from the inner steel wheel thru the rubber grommet in the outer Aluminum wheel. It is rigid enough so that checking the pressure or adding air does not require a third hand.

This method requires breaking down the inner tire to install the new stem, but is well worth the price I paid for the peace of mind- no more hoses, period. Ed

I replaced my tires last fall at Indytire in Indianapolis. The tech was adament that I not put the extension hoses back on the tires as he had seen so many fail. He did exactly what Ed suggested. He asked me for the guage I used so he could adjust the long brass valve stems so I could get to them easily. They work great and are very easy to get to.

Dually Valve - Main Frameset

Solid metal valve stems for dually wheels. Not too cheap but well worth the money.

Does anybody KNOW why the outer wheel's stem is usually pointing inward, which then requires us to use a dual foot gage and /or air chuck? In other words, why can't the outer wheel just have a short stem pointing upward and slightly outward so we can make a direct connection by simply pushing, instead of pulling backwards using dual foot tools.
Thanks, Ed

Don't know why they do that, but I loosened the nut on the valve stems and turned them around so I could install the TPMS. It took a little wiggling to clear the edge of the holes.

Ed, Steels wheels are made with a hi mounting face where the studs go through the wheel. On a dually both of the high sides face one another so the outside valve winds up facing in. In the wheel business (style) 1 size fits all.

When I replaced all the tires a couple of weeks ago I had DuallyValve valve stems installed on the duals. There is a rubber grommet that fits in the handhole to stabilize the long one on the inside duals.

It sure is easy to add and check the air pressure now and my PressurePro sensors fit fine.

I had the flex extentions on the inside rears and they rubbed until the cap, threads and valve stem were damaged, so I replaced with rigid ones from NAPA. Interesting thing is if you order online you pay shipping, if you look up on line and call the nearest NAPA, they order and you can pick them up without shipping charges.

Seahawk - sent you a PM on another topic.
Concerning valve extensions, I used braided stainless steel extentions on my inners without problems for several years but recently removed them to install TPMS. If I didn't have the TPMS I would put them back on.
