FrostMaster... You dont say which seal blew, I would consider there to be 3, 2 outer axle, and 1 pinion.. A common cause for any of them to "Blow" is a blocked rear axle vent. Either not properly made or installed, or covered and sealed with undercoat, paint, mud, or just goo. If you indeed ran low on lube, I would warn you that due to the gear design in a differential, they do not run very low, for very long without doing damage. It may be only to produce noise, or it may lead to failure. I would make good notes on your service history to document the low lube cause and result. The failure isn't usually a sudden, catastrophic occurance, almost always gets progressivly noisey first. Document, then listen for a new noise at about 50/55 in a "coast" situation..rgr...

Pinion, or axle? I had a right rear axle seal let go at around 4500 miles. It's an 07, W22.

Workhorse made the appointment for me at a service center in Ohio, 2hrs after I arrived I was back on the road.

I'm now at 10,000 miles and haven't had any other problems. Oops, I forgot, I did have to clean the chassis battery terminals.

I think the Workhorse is a good chassis, but none of them will be without their problems. I try not to confuse chassis problems with coach problems, ... two totally different animals.

Could be from a plugged vent or drive shaft out of balance. Since Georgie Boy probably lengthened the chassis and prepped it themselves it would probably be they who cause the problem.

BTW: All Caps is considered shouting in the forums and may be perceived as rude by some.

NeilV makes a good point. I assumed that when you said "blew" you meant just that (as in a blown tire). If Neils suggestion turns out to be the case, I would expect pinion bearing bearing damage as well.. rgr...

Had a new Chevy C a year ago that the pinion seal went out. I had run over a plastic Walmart bag and it wrapped around the pinion and melted and when I stopped to fill up the liquid plastic ran down the shaft and through the seal. I caught it in Alabama and it took 3 quarts of fluid to get back to Indiana. I'm glad I fixed it myself, It saved me some bucks that they would not have payed for. You might look close and see if this may have happened to you.

I've got a '03 chassis '05 MH on W22 chassis. Bought new with 8 miles on it. Loaded coach is about 17.5K. Slight noise from new at 16K miles Echols in PHX figured out carrier bearing race spun. Claims to have seen many such failures, set up wrong at Dana. Replaced by WCC under warranty w/o problem. Biggest rear axle under W22 think it is S150 or S130.

Here's a quick update on my rear end issues. 11/21/07 ... Towed to the authorized WH sevice center in our town. WH mechanic, crawling under the coach for the first time, "Wow, there's oil everywhere!!!" Duuhh. Still waiting a call IDing the source. Sorry about the caps in the initial msg .... I was POed. I'll follow up again when I get word on the cause.

Confirmed. A pinion seal leak ... Ahhhh, but they don't have the part. At least We know the cause and it should be an easy fix.
