According to the workhorse service center in Grand Juction, Co workhorse has only rebulit 8.1. when he opened the box( he thought a complete new engine) I guess we had a rebulit long block with a lot of missing parts. The missing parts I will have to pay more for. When he called w/h, thats the way they are getting 8.1s from GM. I new I was getting the fid in the beginning but it just keeps getting worse.

What parts are missing Ron? Why did you choose to get it though WH instead of GM? What kind of warranty will you get?

If I have to buy another engine to replace my replacement engine it would be a New or rebuilt marine 8.1 engine. Steel crankshaft!

Most re-maned are not going to come complete. that way they can fit more types of vehicles.
If its just valve covers, oil pan, and intake you just need to clean yours and install them.
almost always the parts left off are not items that wear.

Coach-Net insisted on towing me to this whorhorse repair place. I asked to be towed to a chevy dealer 20 or so miles east to Salida, Co.
The engine came in a box when they opened it was minus oil pump, water pump, front timing chain cover and other parts that the shop is rounding up. The workhorse guy acted upset and said he called workhorse and they told him that the way it comes from gm. It suppose to have 1 year warranty, I have my doubt about any warranty from whorkhorse.
I am 2000 miles from home and any known resources. I knew it was going to cost me but the m/h was here at the workhorse shop. what am I going to do, have it towed somewhere eles? where and how far?
Take note this caught me off guard you workhorse owner be prepared.
If I had it to do over I tell Coach-Net what to do and have it towed to the Chevy dealer. I was setting 1/3 the way up Monarch Mt, remote no phone service.
I wished I had looked around for somebody to install a duramax diesel
I have my doubt if I can ever get this piece back to Florida

Why? Just install the reman motor and go happily on your way. A reman motor is a lot cheaper than a new motor. It has been completely torn down and reconditioned to like new condition. Bad parts have been replaced and it has been tested and certified to work as advertised. I would have no hesitation to drive it. BTW get a new high quality oil and water pumps, take the accessories off your old motor and after cleaning and painting install them on the new motor and go camping.

Ron, is your motor home at Bear Automotive? Are you staying at a motel or can you stay in the coach?
We are out in Palisade right now (about 8 miles from Bear). If you get bored send me a PM and I will give you our address.
Also after you get it fixed we can set you up for a night or two with water, electric, and a place to dump if you need it before you head out.
I have a hip replacement scheduled next Thursday and will be out of pocket for a few days after that but fine until then.

People Helping People! Can only be found on iRV2 Forums!
I'd take Clay up on his offer. Being stuck in the Grand Valley isn't all that bad. Lots to do. I spent some of my youth in Palisades. I'd go back tommorrow, if I could. You've got the Grand Mesa, Book Cliffs, Colorado National Monument, Close to Moab UT & Gunnison Black Canyon, and some great hot springs (Glenwood & Ouray) -- that will take that tension out of ya. Yep Grand Junction is not a bad place to be stuck on!
PS Clay, best wishes for you hip replacement. Grand Junction has a very good hospital and Ortho team (Dr. Fisher).

Outstanding
I would do as much for an iRV2 member in the Myrtle Beach area as well.

Thanks Clay, I really appreciate the offer. I am up on the Grand Mesa at Grand Mesa Lodge. I carried all my electronic junk and stuff I thought would damage up out of the heat. I have been up here 2 weeks, night temps 40s and day in 60-70s.
The engine is in and running yesterday, had some problems before the blow up and they show up and the shop is chasing that and the new air conditioner compressor clutch is making the same noise as the old, working on that. I ask them to take it out and due a long road test because when I leave here I am towing a rubicon.
Clay, I did go to the peach festival and so far we have had 5 peach cobblers. thanks again.
My plan on the way to Florida is to trade and if I don't trade I will park the workhorse and purchase a small 5th wheel for travel. My CG pension just cain't keep up with workhorse.

Thanks for the wishes!!
Yeah I understand St Mary's is ranked number 5th in the nation.
The surgeon doing the replacement is Dr Nankano. He is supposed to be really good. Joint replacements are all he does.

Well, if you have to be stuck somewhere Grand Mesa is not too shabby a place to be stuck. That is a beautiful area.
I don't know if the lodge restaurant still makes those cinnamon rolls like the ones they used to but if they do they are worth the price.
We inherited 1/3 of a 3000 tree commercial peach orchard last winter. That is why we are here for part of the summer. We are about to finish up with harvest.
Many people may not realize it but Palisade peaches are about as good as any in the world - in my not so humble opinion.
I hope you can find something that won't be so costly to keep on the road.

Wow! 2 weeks and the engine is in and running. This is good news. As my handle implies, I am a fulltimer and I envisioned being kicked out of my house for at least a month or more if this ever happened to me. I can handle 2 weeks.
Good luck with the new engine. I would expect if the trip back to Florida goes without incident that you will change your mind about selling the motorhome. Time heals all wonds.

Even new engines do not come complete.. Just what's in the block, front and rear "Caps" and such are not included.. Manufolds are often not included.
GM no longer makes the 8.1 DO NOT BLAME WORKHORSE,, Workhorse never made that engine or any other engine.. Workhorse bought them from GM GM is to blame.
