Hi all
I started to do my annual maintenance on the MH. I just noticed that the rubber shroud blocking the air from entering the dog house is getting shredded. I am looking to what I can use to build a replacement but cannot find any material that I think will work. I got suggested vinyl floor covering but don't think that is a good idea since I can see it curl up over time.
Anybody know what I can use and where I can get this stuff?
I think the purpose of this "center baffle" (i think that is the correct term) is to direct the air into the rad. So I should definitely replace it with something.
Over at the other forum sombody mentioned that there was a Workhorse recall on that. Does anybody know about this?

I had to replace mine in 2007. I ordered it from Redlands Truck. It's Workhorse Part # W0005312 and called "Baffle, Center". It cost me $66.23 and is precut. You will have to do some more minor cutting though. The replacement is much more thicker than the original and hasn't shown a deteriation yet. My original one fell apart.

Gonzo,
Mine was starting to tear apart also. In my case, a can of spray foam[exterior type] from a hardware store solved the problem. The foam has held it together now for about 4 yrs. and shows no sign of wear or tear.

I pursued the same resolution as did Fred K. The new fabric is much more sturdy and it is the factory standard not only for Workhorse but other OEMs as well.
Make sure that you get your fabric replaced before you begin traveling any great distances before the summer.

I guess I've been lucky so far. Mine fell apart 2 years ago and like everything else I was going to replace it first chance I got by a dealer. So far I've had no problems with over heating and I pull a F150 4X4 on a dolly. One thing that really bothers me when traveling is keeping a eye on the water temp, but so far it's been fine. But I think I will put forward a little more effort to get this project done in the very near future...To be honest I had forgotten all about it!

One of the benefits to having the air dam in place is that your main fan (load roar) will come on less often because of the increased airflow thru the radiator. Since the fan requires HP from the motor when it engages, you might actually save some gas, and hear less noise too.

I bought some ribbed rubberized material at Home Depot. It is in their flooring dept. and you buy it by the foot. It is 3' wide. I don't know if it would work for the air dam application, but I made a toad car shield out of it and it has been there in the wind stream behind the coach for two years of traveling and is holding up fine. Might be worth a look if you need something quick, and it was pretty inexpensive.

Just talked to the Service Center up here. Was told that by the time I have the part here in Edmonton, it will cost me around $130.
So I will have to find an alternative I guess.

I used the ribbed material from Home Depot also for an out side project about three years ago and the item is still in good shape. It's black and more rubber like than the original. I'm sure it is a better material than the original. Anything would be better than what seems like a cheap grade roofing felt.

At home depot in the plumbing dept, they have a roll of thick gray plastic (3 feet wide) used to line the floor under a home shower. You buy it by the foot. Enough to do the air dam was about $7.00. Lloyd

I went to a home hardware store and got the black rippled rubber floor covering. was $5/ft. only need any ft so that looks good again.
I did a lot of work over the weekend. Beside the usual oil change and a rad-flush my neighbor actually got his service truck outside (he is a heavy duty mech for Volvo). He offered to take the wheels off to inspect the brakes after we talked about the recall. The good new is that the is absolutely no unusual wear to report. No cracking of the rotors what so ever. No evidence of anything mentioned in the workhorse instructions for mechanics. SO I AM A HAPPY RV'er and will take my tin-tippi for a 700 KM trip in 2 weeks form today (going into the rockies)

This is one of the first things I've done with our "new-to-us" MH. I've had a roll of used conveyor belt with me for years, just waiting for a project like this. It's about an eighth-inch thick and works great. I spliced the areas that had to be cut to get around the hoses with smaller pieces of the belt and aluminum rivets. Hardest part was finding the original screw holes, but I got 'em!
