I was just about to order a Scangauge II for my 03 Pace Arrow with a 8.1 W-22 and while searching the message base found that the Autotap may be a better choice. My question is - would I need the GM upgrade? I'd like to see real-time data like temp's, instant mpg, avg mpg and a few other basic readings.

Thanks,
Bob

I also don't use all the features of my Scangauge II but do really like it. I wish it had Xmission temp. But, maybe it does, does it?

It doesn't, but I have an email from ScanGauge saying they are working on a way to add the feature soon. He said he will send me an email when it's ready.

I just took a look at the AutoTap web site and it appears to be a diagnostic scanner only. If it has trip computer functions I didn't see them.

Will do.
Ron said he was hoping to have it ready before summer, but we are real close to that time now.

I have the Auto Tap and like it. I also ordered and use the GM upgrade. I believe you need it to take advantage of functions other then emmision items.

I use it as a virtual dash board while driving to compliment the GPS/Delorme/laptop arrangement. I use a 15 inch LCD monitor hanging from the overhead cabinets above the dash. No it does not block my view of the road!.

Bob, I don't believe mpg is available data in the OBDII. This is probably a secondary calculation and result from basic data in the OBDII. I would guess that Scan gage and the Actia panel use that data and do the secondary calculation from it.

As far as I have been able to determine, The Autotap does not do that calculation.

In 2003, I don't believe there is any Allison transmission temperature output to monitor other then possibly an over temp flag setting function.

More recently MYs may have a linear temperature output to work with?? Some one else here may know.

All of the virtual gage functions I use are real time. I suppose a software guru person could come up with a way to manipulate Autotaps files to come up with custom mpg algorythms. Right now that is beyond my reach.

Hope this helps your decision making.

Marty

Look at http://www.aeroforcetech.com/
I have used one of these gauges for the last 6 months and love it. It gives 2 rows of 28 different paramters.
I like to monitor the coolant temp and the trans temp but just lately I used the oil presure reading to confirm my loss of oil pressure.
Easy to install and easy to read.
Hope this helps.
