I have a 2003 Pace Arrow 36B. I purchased it used 3 years ago. When I first got it I noticed the brake lights would stay on and the cruise control would not work. I adjusted the switch and all was fine until about 6 months ago.
After about a month in storage, it started doing it again. The bracket that holds the switch is very cheesy so I figured it had just backed away. Today I finally got around to investigating it and I was not happy with what I found.
The brake pedal does not return to any where near the stop. I have to pull it up about 1.5 inches for it to activate the switch. I started driving it out of storage to my house and about half way home I noticed the brakes weren't releasing all the way. Definitely has never done this before. If you pull the pedal up they release. The brakes feel normal when I apply them. If anyone is familiar with this system or problem I have two questions:
1) What brings the pedal back? I see no spring or place for a spring.
2) What am I looking at to fix it? Simple? Complex? Expensive?
Going on vacation in 2 weeks and don't want to have to drive with a bungee cord to the brake pedal. Thanks for your help in advance

P.S. In reading some of the other posts I see there is an investigation into the w22 brakes. I caught the front brake rotor cracks on inspection when I purchased the RV (I could see them). I asked them to check the rears. They said everything was fine. One year later, I luckly found my rear rotors cracked clean through in three places while lubing my slides. The dealer pointed to my contract and refused to honor their mistake. $1100 later I have new rear brakes.

Thanks. Found a good long discussion. I do not have the zerk. I suspect that is where it is binding. I can fix that. Now if I can just find a bungee cord to get it to where it needs to stay tonight.

A spring may work better than a bungee cord.

Welcome to the forum!!!
you will find an awful lot of postings about the w/h "braking"system. no pun intended. i also have had the grease fitting installed;along with some other issues from w/h. all have fixed to my satisfaction and in a timley manner.i probably have more patience than most-but i get 99% of what i start to have fixed. read the posts-respond and enjoy the rv experience.

Later models of W series are seen to have had a grease fitting installed on the brake relay rod or Z Bar. Having a grease fitting or Zerk installed may prove to be of benefit to you. I have a 1999 p series and experienced the same issue this weekend. I backed off the brake light switches thast summer and it is doing it again.
I have to pull up on the pedal its about 3/4 inch of play but it is a hard pull like it might be binding.
Is this also a common problem with the P series? Does it have the same fixes?
Sorry for jumping post but uncanny how it just happened to me this weekend then here is the post.

My 2006 W-22 has a small movement of the brake pedal when on a rough road that continually knocks off the cruise control. Added a small bungee to eliminate the movement.

We have a P32 chassis with the same issues brake pedal does not return fully you need to pull it up with your foot, being in the UK servicing is somewhat difficult, have you guys any idea what to look for

The suggestion that a switch adjustment is the best fix may be ignoring a basic need to have at least some free pedal lash to allow correct function of the master cylinder.In my case,just shifting the wiring loom associated with the brake light switch caused the switch to activate the brake lights.In essence.my fix was a sort of bungee,with a DIY bracket and a strip of EPDM-looks OK and ensures pedal lash.Some day I may learn how to post pictures.

Many of us on IRV2 use Photobucket.com to upload our pictures. You won't need any special permissions from IRV2 to post a link to your pictures.
Once you upload your pic's to Photobucket, you copy the link listed below each picture, then paste the link in your IRV2 posting. The link should have [IMG] before and [/IMG] after link. The first time you do it you may find you used too large or too small of resolution. But then you can upload it again to size it right. I believe around 640x480 or 600x400 is a good compromise size. You can have captions in Photobucket but they won't show up here. You can just type instruction in posting, insert the link and repeat for each picture.
