Just returned from extended trip to West Coast and noticed during this trip that the dash A/C operated when the controls were selected to the heat position. i.e. Control knob to either combined vent and floor position or to the floor only position and the temp control to max cold. Selecting the A/C position did not have any effect on the temperture of the air out (cold). would not be a wory, except I do not desire to have the A/C compressor on all of the time... Is this normal or do I have a problem? any help appreciated.

If you are experienceing warm air coming out of vents and AC runs all the time you may have what others have had, a faulty water valve that does not close completely shuting hot water from radiator. Evans has replaced valve others have installed a ball valve in hose line and shut off the hot water from radiator.

It's set up so any position except vent will have the compressor running. I also don't care to have it running all the time because one thing is about the extra heat generated and also the power consumption in gasoline. I just use vent now all the time.

Sounds like I will have to start using the vent position also. On the cool mornings, I would go to the console/floor output position to try to improve gas mileage, the air would stay cold all day. So I guess I never did find out if turning off the A/C would improve gas mileage. Averaged in the high seven MPG range for the 6,000 trip with a low of 5.2 into strong head winds in N.D. and a high of 8.5 from Twin Falls, Id up to W. Yellowstone then across Y.S to E. Teaton exit and on to Casper,Wy with minor additions of high priced fuel in y. S. and Riverton, Wy. This included 3 passes over 8000 ft and one over 9000ft. It seamed to like the high altitudes.
Thanks
Bob
