When mine decides not to work it doesn't matter if it's on max or not - it just plain blows Hot air - I'm not talking warm but HOT. So I'm hoping it is something like your describing. I took a brief look under the dash area last night to see if I could find any vacuum lines. I couldn't locate anything but it was hard to see without removing parts and I didn't have time to do that last night. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed as other wise I'll be back to square one.

Im not sure if yours is like mine but if it is the vac lines they go to the selector switch(max ac, ac, vent, def switch and so on) . Under my hood, the vac lines look just like the pic that ome posted, green and blue. good luck

On my dash air.. it was the Air conditioner Expansion Valve that failed...
