Does GM or Workhorse do upgrades on the computers for the engine and Allison transmission? Would there be any real advanage to having it done?
I know about Ultra-Power. What type dealers can do the upgrads if it can be done? I read that they charge around $100.00. Guess I don't under stand all this updating.
Does the Ultra-Power do both engine and transmission?
Thanks
Ron

Unless something drastic changes in your transmission or engine there's basically no need to have your computers re-flashed. GM develops and installs a "Calibration File" that is written to the Powertrain Control Module or Engine Control Module if you have an Allison transmission. Allison transmission writes a separate file for the TCM or Transmission Control Module. The boss is the PCM/ECM and they communicate over what is called a bus. The ECM communicates with the TCM and basically gives instructions to the transmission about things such as but not limited to RPM and speed.<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Does the Ultra-Power do both engine and transmission? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Ultra-Power is an after market piece of software that is written to the PCM/ECM. The TCM does not require separate programming when installing UP.

But it would be nice to have the Allison shift into OD, (5th gear in my case) sooner than 55 MPH. I find myself speeding up to 55 just to get it into 5th gear than slowing down if 55 is too fast for the road/conditions. Just seems like the engine is revving faster than it needs to on level terrain.

Don and Kim;
I agree with that... my motorhome seems like it is working too hard, at times, on a flat, level road with no real load, because I'm traveling 45-50 mph. One of my local roads has a maximum of 50 mph so the transmission stays 'stuck' in fourth gear, all the while sounding like it should go to fifth...
