Nay, I disagree. When my compressor went blooey one tech crawled under the front of the RV and had the belt completely off in seconds. When it was replaced later, the same tech did it in just a couple of minutes. I saw him do it. I do wish, though, that I had watched MUCH more carefully!

I really don't think it's that difficult. I removed the original belt so I could take it to the auto parts and get a spare. Then replaced it without any additional help.. Having a diagram does help a lot.. Jack

To Husky Jack:

Seeing that many of us desire the serpentine belt routing diagram, is there a place to post it on this web site?

I've replaced several belts and confused myself more times than I care to admit but the best diagram is the actual Workhorse website with the picture of the 8.1 as equiped on all W series coaches. A picture always seems to be better than a diagram.

8.1 serpentine picture

THANK YOU suspension_engineer !

That is a great picture and all folks have to do is click on the "features and benefits" tab at the top of the page you linked to see the proper belt routing.

The belt tensioner has a 3/8 square hole in it. Not a 1/2 inch.

Read item #8 on the Workhorse page.
8. The sturdy long-life accessory drive belt has a life expectancy of 150,000 miles

Hello, this threat interests me; a few weeks ago I bought a 2002 Holiday Rambler Vactioner, 17,010 miles, super clean etc.

Now to the fan belt. I would obviously like to carry one as a spare. Is the belt for a standard 8.1 vortec belt....can it be bought at a car parts store by saying I have an 8.1 vortec? Should I get a GM part or would a aftermarket (autozone) item be ok.

Thanks, IVER (HEMI)

I just replace mine every two years. Keep one as a spare. Easy to replace. I use an extension on my wrench and tie it to the frame to hold it back while I replace the belt. All done from the bottom side.

I'm sure Gates will cross reference to another vendor.

Mine lasted 22500 mi & 3 1/2 years. I agree with Bigdaddy....keep a spare. I won't install it myself, but will have it avail for a Tech to install.

I downloaded that picture to my flash drive that we carry with us to use in the laptop. Also have the service manual loaded on it. Richard
