We just took the plunge on a 2008 Newmar Canyon Star on the W22 chassis. We judged the ride on the Workhorse to be superior to the Ford F53 and worth the upgrade charge.
One thing that we didn't like was the tight fit between the plastic steering column cover and the driver's seat. It makes it difficult to get enter and exit the driver's seat.
Is this a problem that others have noticed and is there a workable solution?

This is not so much a Workhorse issue as a Newmar one.. I have a 2005 Damon Intruder, also a Workhorse W-22, I'm 6'3" by 330 lbs and the only problem I have is seeing the speedometer.

A custom made steering wheel fixed that just fine.

If anyone needs one larger than the "Delux" job that Workhorse sells, let me know and I'll post the name of the folks who made mine..

Standard wheel 16" hard plastic No extra charge

Delux wheel 18" leather wrapped I think it's 347

Custom 20" wheel,Hand Made, One of a Kind, also leather wrapped, 127 delivered. plus install

Yes, it is a Newmar issue based on where the seat is placed and the limited fore/aft travel due to a slide out.
However, even if there was more room, I would hesitate to be using the seat electric drive every time I got in or out of the seat.
Would removing the plastic cover cause any problems?

Since I'm not tall, and like to be close to the pedals while driving, I have used the electric seat adjustment feature hundreds, perhaps thousands of times for 4+ years and over 60K miles without wearing it out. Flexsteel seats are pretty durable! As for removing the plastic column trim, it is there for esthetic purposes only. ED
