I drained my oil thinking I had a spare NAPA filter in my stock - none there. Nearest NAPA is 30 miles away and today is a holiday

So I went up to local corner store who carry Fram and Quaker State

So I got a QS 5 and a Fram HM 5 (High Mileage)

I notice neither manufacturer shows up on Oemy's site

So how do these filters stack up compared to other brands, is the Fram HM worth the doubled price, and would I hurt the engine if I used them for 3k miles?. I have 30 k miles on our rig

Thanks,
Preston

We do not see overwhelming endorsements for Fram filters here on iRV2 rather we tend to go with any other manufacturer.

If you have an Advance autoparts see if you can get an equivalent Mobil1 filter. In the OE size, the filter is model number: M1-111.

I don't think there would be any problem of using the Fram until you can get a better replacement. Nothing says you cannot change filters w/o changeing oil.

The 1 qt Mobil 1 is an M1-302. (for 8.1 Workhorse)

First, thanks to everyone for your replies. I will just have to leave the oil out for another day or two until I head into town to find a filter. I wonder how bad Fram really is - their bad rep is almost a mystique.

yeah DriVer, I did trade my Ford a year ago for a Workhorse. I asked a couple of times that the Ford annotation be changed to a WH annotation - guess my requests got lost in cyberspace and then I just forgot about it

So if you could, please.

Thanks
Preston

Heh! The study sure pans the AC Delco filter. Seems like the FRam XG5 has the best rating of the bunch (I do not consider price to be important). Makes me wonder about the value of the study if FRAM has such a bad rep

You got that right. The study is flawed. Anyone who gives price a higher rate than media surface area or volume of media filter material should be testing something else.

DON'T USE THE FRAM. Read previous posts on this filter. It won't allow full oil flow at higher rpms especially as it starts to get "dirty".

A few years ago the after market was flooded with fake AC Delco oil filters.

I use AC Delco PF454 oil filters in my 8.1 but purchase them only from the local Chevy dealer.

If you can find a WIX at your local auto parts store, buy it. Napa Gold are made by WIX and are about the best you can buy.

Please include if you will the "Hastings" oil filter which is also made by the same manufacturer!
