W22 power steering freezeup

Hi all -

I remember my dad telling me that he tried to leave my uncle's place in Michigan one winter a few years ago, and the power steering had frozen up - it took a couple of hours and a lot of watts through a hairdryer for one of my cousins to get the system working.

A week or so ago, I went to move the mh at about 0 degrees - same problem. Wheel wouldn't turn. When it warmed up the next day, no problem.

Could I have water in the PS fluid, or another problem, or is this just normal?

- Clay

I think it is normal. I used a 1500 watt heater - aimed at the pump so that I could get it to turn. It was -32.C at the time.
A "lighter" synthetic might help if it was a frequent problem.
I headed where it was warmer.

Thanks JCM -

Guess I'll scratch that off the "stuff to worry about" list then!

Once in awhile it gets chilly in WY - but I like winter, so the coach is just gonna have to deal with it!
