I have 40.000 miles on an 06 W22 if I change the serpentine belt should I change anything else while it is off?

You might want to look at the belt tensioner.

I would suggest you change the belt. Mine failed at 40,000 miles. I had a spare, which is not a bad idea; buy two.

In 94,000 miles I have seen 4 different belts on our motorhome. None failed.

It looks like you have a 6 to 7 year old coach. You might look to other preventive maintenance items and make a full day of it. Things like changing the transmission fluid or at least changing the spin on filter; greasing the leaf springs, tightening those hard to reach metal screws and fasteners holding the coach to the chassis..each brand is different of course. I so hate to get under the coach that when I do I want to make it worth it. Changing the fuel filter is an example of cheap things to do once you are under neath.

Driver,

Does that mean that you have had 4 different belts on your W-22? Not sure I understand your reply and currently wondering if I should go ahead and replace the belt on our '06 W-22.

Our belt looks very good as I do check it often and we have 52k miles on ours. But I have heard the horror stories from folks who have had a problem. I know on cars, belts are a non-issue under normal conditions.

Is there a general consensus on when to replace the belt? Is Gates the best bet or is there a better belt out there?

Bob

Bob, No one is going to suggest that you should not change a 5-6 year old serpentine belt if you feel that you want to do that. I am currently using a Workhorse part number fan belt from the service center. Unknown as to manufacturer at the moment.

The truth be known I have gone through 2 different types of serpentine belts.
1. The original
2. Crystal Cool compressor belt
3. Back to a stock compressor & OE belt
4. Recently changed belt in #3.

Odometer reading 94,333.5 sitting here in the Tampa East RV Resort. I had a great ride down here, to runs, no drips no errors. I did find and I replaced 1 bad spark plug wire before departing however I have not directly blamed any single point of failure or established a timeline however I am leaning and I think it had something to do with Sam's Gap.

The engine coolant temperature was nominal - IVO ~207°F @ 80°F IAT.

Cruising profile was 2150RPM at approximately 58 MPH returning IP Avg readings of up to 8.4 MPGs towing.

Good idea to keep one handy. We just had our '06 in for some service and I had them replace the belt. While it had no visible cracking the times I checked, it was indeed starting to crack. The outside (smooth) of the belt was in good condition, but the inside when folded back (smooth to smooth) had lots of real small cracks every inch or so. So when you inspect the belt, push it out on the smooth side and check the ribbed side with a flashlight for cracking. We have 53k on our W-22.

Just had one break leaving Tampa, Steve's Auto & Truck service charged me $71 for the belt plus an hour's labor. The belt can be purchased for about $28 so having one on hand is worth it. 2004 Monaco LaPalma W-22 with 45k miles.

I have a 2005 Winnebago and have 20k miles. It is a W-24, the local Workhorse dealer said could be a couple of different belts. I would like to have a spare belt to carry with me when traveling just in case it is needed. Anyone know the correct belt to purchase for my 8.1L 2004 chassie? Thanks Ralph
