What should the average RV owner carry with him/her onboard in case of emergency in reference to the Workhorse W20 & W22 chassis?

I'm thinking belts, fuel filters, oils etc. but please be as specific as you can.

Might be a good topic for a variety of Workhorse chassis if possible.

Been covered before in here, but I bought a spare fuel filter to carry....nothing else, and there is no reason to carry spare parts.

I'm not a worry wart or that concerned with a breakdown....and we just got back from Orlando...no problems as usual...No use getting your heart rate up....

I don't carry one but should: a spare headlight bulb. The headlights are so bad on my MH that if one burned out, I think my wife would have to walk ahead of me with a flashlight to get me off the road!

I do carry an oil filter and five quarts of oil, an air filter, a spare tire and a compressor, and some coolant. Most importantly, I carry a spare set of keys, not due to a breakdown, but to prevent an emergency of locking ourselves out. A spare belt seems like a good idea too.

I once had an oil pan plug fall out (Volkswagen Rabbit) and got stranded on Highway 80 near Elko, Nevada. Ever try to find one at midnight? (A teen-age gas station attendent 'sold' me one off a junked out Dodge Omni for $20 in cash, plus I had to buy him motor oil and fill up his old Buick GasHog that was on empty.) The best part was I was wearing a suit and he made me crawl under the Omni to pull that plug. For $2.50, I should carry a spare one for the MH.

And lastly, I also carry my wife, so we can play Scrabble while we wait for the tow truck or repair man...

I may be a bit anal, but I will do the small things my self. I have carried these items on every coach I have owned over the years and can change each one in less than an hour.

Light bulbs (headlamp,stop/tail, turn sig), fan belt, alternator, starter, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, trans fluid. Small tool kit with hand tools,LED battery light, go-jo cleaner and rags. Keep all in small compartment.

GerryB54,
If you carry spare parts and don't have required tools to change them out they will not do you much good. If you intend to do the repairs your self, it would be a good exercise to check out the actual steps and tool sizes you will need for any of the spare parts replacements.

Aside from some basic quantities of common fluids such as oils, any catastrophic losses of critical fluids will likely not be helped much with replacements without a repair first.

I carry a spare fuel filter(2). Likely to need both if dirty batch of fuel occurs.
Two qts of engine oil.
A pint of 90 wt axle oil.
Several spare ignition wires.
and
A spare gas cap.

Marty

A tow vehicle to un-hook and get what you might need.... If that fails Coach-Net and a good cell-phone then just Relax!

I usually do have a toad, also use CW Road Care Service and have a cell phone w/internet access card as well...coverage varies but on interstates we're ok...T-Mobile.

Monday night at 11:00 pm was the first time I ever had to call CW road Care service, very professional but not much they could do at that time...limped home the next morning...if interested, see my post on W22 Tail Lights problem.

Oh, the joys of your (now my) Class A ownership world...getting a chance to use your emergency road care service company...what have I paid for all these years?

I would agree with the first poster, Fuel filters and hen's teeth, both are roughly as easy to find (HINT: Hen's don't have teeth) so carry one.

Also a good reliable back up communications system

I carry CELL PHONE, CB Radio, HAM radio Hughes 2-way sat internet service with a SKYPE account

Just in case I'm in the middle of Lord knows Where and I break down... A towed and a GPS are handy too.

Many times I've entered the question of "Class A or 5er" with the comment that My towed gets way better gas millage than the tow-vehicle bob-tail, (Without trailer) and hooked up the MH gets about the same as the tow-5er combo for the same size.. And in a worst case situtation (IE: Engine or drive line failure) I may not have a spare tire.... But I got a spare RIDE!!!!
