Weighing Motorhomes

My motorhome is at Cummins in Evasnivlle, IN for the caliper recall. The service manager said there is transfer (or whatever) on the rear rotor and is waiting on Workhorse for authorization to repair.
Anyway, I am getting prepared to head south for the winter and after reading all the information here I thought I would get my motorhome weighed to properly inflate the tires.

My question is: Where do I get it weighed at? Will truck stops weigh motorhomes? What is the customary and usual charge?
Thanks

Some truck stops have scales but not all. You might give some local ones a call. The charge is in the $10-$20 range. No need to do the 4 corner weigh thing that many people do. Weigh the front and rear axles then go to the inflation charts for your brand and size tire. Do not use the minimum pressure for your axle loading, always use at least the next higher on the chart. Also be sure to have the Rv loaded as you would normally have it when ready for travel. gas, LP and fresh water tanks full.

Look in the Yellow pages for "Public Scales". A lot of truck stops have them. As stated previously it usually runs $10 to $20. I think it is less if you don't require a certificate.

I believe Flying J has certified CAT Scales that charge $8 for RV's. CAT scales are also at other truck stops along the highway. If your heading south you're bound to run into one as you gas up.

I just weighed my coach at a CAT scale at a Flying J for $9.

Just roll up on the scale (if it's open) , hit the call button, and they will ask "first weigh or re-weigh" (you are a first weigh) and then tell them you are a private coach and give them your license plate.

Or stop at a coal tipple. Mine charged $5 and that was for 3 weights. The Truck, the trailer, and truck & trailer.

I think you will get a discount with multiple weigh-in's. Save your receipts.

It is nice to have a 4 wheel weight to check left to right balance. If you are over weight on one side the total axle weight might give you an incorrect tire pressure. The shop doing your calipers might be able to weigh it for you.

I've yet to see a place where four wheel weighing is possible. All the scales I've seen have guard rails on the side which won't allow you to weigh one wheel.

if you go and see Oemy in Texas he'll weigh any wheel you want.

If you go to FMCA Rallies, RVSEF will give you a 4 corner weigh on your way out of the rally site on a pre-pay basis. This is usually in conjunction with their seminar.

might try the local quarry also. I have seen farmers go across the scale at our local quarry to weigh livestock in a tlr.

The total suspension loading would still be the same. You will find nowhere in the tire pressure charts that recomends weighing each corner. They are looking at the total load to be carried by the tires. You will also notice that these are the recomended cold minimum pressures. Using the minimum is inviting tire failure. Always go to at least the next chart recomendation and you will not have to be concerned if you happen to add 200lbs. of cargo to the right rear the next time out, Or if 300lb. uncle charlie decides to ride in the passingers seat.
My main concern here is for everyones safety and understand and using the charts correctly is tantamount to safety.

If you are near GVWR, I recommend you get rid of some of your weight by reducing the amount of water you carry during travel. I travel with no more than about 15 gallons.
