Relax buddy, I didn't say I knew anything about that chassis, nor do I really care too. All I said is if you go to Napa this is what shows up on their computer when you put the vin # in. not just some aftermarket parts person, "which by the way I'm not" but the whole company.

Vin number to find chassis info?

Hello....new idiot here. Can I somehow look up my VIN # to determine exactly what chassis and transmission I have?
1997 Fleetwood Southwind Storm Chevy 454 7.4L Was pretty sure I had P-30 chassis, after reading this, not so sure. No idea what transmission??? Help, please.

I believe the pre-WCC chassis built by GM/Chevy were P32 and they used either the 4L-80E or the 4L-85E 4 speed GM tranny. IF they used the same vin # protocol as did WCC, then you should have either a "3" or a "5" in the sixth vin# position.

I think you will need to ask a GM dealer to "run" your vin # to get the build sheet specifics. I can only access the WCC built data, beginning with the 1999 models.

There are online GM vin# decoders that should get you what you seek. Yours should be a P32 chassis although most auto parts retailers have to find it under p30 for whatever reason. Hope this helps.

IDK, our '99 Thor/Four Winds Infinity 34-H (35'8" overall length) was a P-30 chassis...

Well.... just spoke with the GM motor home dept, and they insisted I have a P-30 chassis.... not entirely convinced, but I’m moving on.
I DID confirm I’ve got a 4L80-E transmission, and that the torque settings for the front disc brake banjo bolts (connecting brake hoses to calipers) is 32 ft lbs.... if anyone is interested.
Thx all.

Thanks. Feel free to ask here as you learn your rig.
As a fellow 454 L29/4L80E owner I have to say it has been rock solid for the 8 years I've owned it. You also need to know the chassis weight (GVW). Mine is 16,500 Lbs but they also made several lighter chassis (like 12,500 and 14,500) that have unique brakes/features. Above 15,000 lb chassis use 'Tow Truck Brakes'.
Also I think the 12,500 lb chassis may not have the dreaded AutoPark (AAPB) but a more conventional parking brake and xmission 'Park" pawl. If you do have the yellow Parking Brake pull control you need to learn about AutoPark. Nothing to fear but something to know and respect. Here is a link to that info (see the FAQs):

It is a P32 chassis if it is a Motorhome. They may have been called a P30 in the early year, but in the 90s they were called P32. I bought the GM service manuals for both of my 90s P32 MH chassis. Very good books to have if you own one. Bought both sets off of Ebay, and let them go with the coachs when I sold them. Here's a link.

I am amazed to learn that GM has a "motor home dept" since they don't build motor homes or motor home chassis any more. They last produced a chassis used under a motor home in 1999.

Can you provide the phone number of the GM department with which you spoke?

Motorhome brands which used the GM/Workhorse chassis

Anyone know how many different motor home manufacturers used the GM chassis in the late 80s & early 90s?

With an interest in older Airstream RVs, I'm curious because there are several local salvage yards which have older RVs & some parts are unobtainium.

Our 1985 345 Diesel had a P30 Chevrolet frame, but it was my understanding that for some of the 38 footers they made they used a Gillig frame. I know there are some Gilligs out there.
