I currently have an Actron OBD II scanner that I use to troubleshoot the coach but would like to have something that records the real time data to track down those intermittant alarms.
Anyone using this type of software or have any recommendations??

I just update my web site and moved the OBD 2 scan tools to it's own section. I have 3 scan tools.
2 Laptop based:
1) Car Code OBD2 by Alex Peper
2) ProScan by Gore Research
and
1 Display based:
Scan Gauge II/Xgauge
For me Car Code OBD2 is the best for the person that really wants to get deep into the data. But, it has steep learning curve.

Did I understand correctly that SCAN GAUGE II has a trans temp read out? If so, how does it get that data if there is no temp sender? Or is there one built into the electronics/TCM?

It's built in to the ECM/TCM. The Car Cde OBD2 program provides an addition 259 items as part of the Enhanced Menu base on the L18 engine. TFT is just one of them.

Oemy,
I have looked at the Car Code Site a few times, was not sure if it would work with an '03 W22, the online data says '04 and later. I sent them an email and have as of yet got no response.
Have you had any experience with the AutoTap software??
Sounds like from your other posts the Car Code does what I am looking for as long as it will work with my '03. Is there any limitation on the number of data points or their source (TCM/ECM/ABS/Chassis/etc) that you can record??

I have a Dec 03 build chassis and CC OBD2 works great. I have used it on just about every year of WH made with no problems. Generally the support is really good, just give him a little time.

No... But, in reviewing their web site the base unit only gets you the generic PID's for $200. The GM enhanced data protocol costs another $100. I am not sure it is worth that much, when for about $240 CC OBD2 provides for all protocols.

I think almost everything you want is in CC OBD2 except maybe ABS.

js9315,
I have AutoTap with the GM enhancement I use it to display a virtual dashboard on a heads up monitor suspended from the drivers side overhead cabinet in place of a sun visor. Auto Taps' GM enhancement has not been able to access the trans temp on my Allison even though it shows that parameter. AutoTap maker has not been helpful in fixing this.
The software does allow real time data logging and replay

Thanks M&EM, looks like Car Code is the way to go then...
Nice looking display, that is part of what I am interested in doing... part of my new car(RV)puter...
Omey, does the car code package come with everything needed to connect to the motorhome or is there an interface required (I would rather use a USB interface is it is available). Thanks...

When you order Car Code you choose the Protocol and order the cable to match. For most of us it will be the GM VPW protocol. Here is the cable needed.
Then you need to download the software(about 3 meg) and the USB Driver (1.5 meg).
Although Car Code does not have the full screen function that AutoTap does it does have the enhanced data ($100 option from AutoTap) as part of the base package (about $140). So items like the Allison Tranny Temp is available along a whole bunch of other things.
Here is the dash board.

Lots of good info on your web-site Oemee!
Although I saw no mention of problems with Serial to USB translation cables for the OBD II connector on this forum, I have seen several comments on other forums, to that effect. As you mention, interface options for multiple protocols are $100 items for the Auto-Tap. Another popular PC-based scanner for the OBD II setup ( non Motorhome vehicles ) is the AutoEnginuity setup, but its multi-protocol packages are even more expensive. Customers who have used both the AT & AE setups say the AT is faster, but doesn't have as many display screens retrieval of logged data is not as straightforward.
My biggest concern, is selecting a scanner that can be used with all my OBD II compliant vehicles ( Dolphin MH, Mercedes ML320 & '05 Jeep Wrangler ). Like most on this forum, I want a scanner that can monitor the Allison Tranny, as well as the ECM functions. The Jeep is not a big problem, as it uses the same protocol as the MH, with only air-bags to consider along with power-train components. The real "elephant in the room" is the ML, which has a complicated full-time all-wheel-drive & traction/stability-control functions, along with dozens of chassis & body sensors to "worry" about. While labor costs to repair workhorse problems are nothing to sneeze at, they pale in comparison with those charged by the MB "stealerships" ( as they are referred to on the MB forum). AutoEnginuity is ( supposedly ) coming out with an enhanced MB interface & diagnostic package in February, but if you have info about the Car Code folks coming out with a similar package shortly, I'm all ears. While the DW's ML is still purring along Ok right now, the posts I've read from other owners indicate it will be a ticking time-bomb once it passes 30K miles.
All input is appreciated.
G.S.

No problem with Serial to USB conversion devices/cables.
I upgraded to the TRICAN setup and that covers just about everything. Total cost was about $240. Alex even sent the upgraded interface/cable and trusted me to send the old cable back.

<span class="ev_code_RED">ATTENTION</span> information about Proscan software.
I received a call from a RV'er that ordered Proscan back in Dec and has not received anything nor has his Email been answered. So, I did a Google search and it seems that Proscan may be hit by the economic down turn.
Bottom line <span class="ev_code_red">BUYER BEWARE</span>.
I have sent an Email to them and will place a Warning on my Web Site.
