If you are the owner of record at www.workhorse.com all of the information should be there under "my Motorhome". If you are not registered you can do so using the chassis VIN. There is also a free downloadable "Chassis Guide" with valuable information.
If you would post your chassis VIN I am sure someone will be able to answer your question.

Hook ED up with the last 8 digits of your serial number and he will get you the transmission serial number. You most like have a 5 Speed - Allison 2100MH transmission. There isn't anything in the WCC VIN# that tells you what type of tranny you have but the build sheet will have it listed.

I have a 2005 W24.

Your transmission is an Allison 2100MH. This same transmission was used in some low horsepower diesels.

You also have a Dana S130 rear end with a 5.86 gear ratio and a 12.2" ring gear. The 5.86 rear end along with the 5-speed Allison gives you an advantage over other gas motorhomes on hills.

In 2005 Workhorse introduced the 6-speed Allison with the same 5.86 rear end. The 6-speed added a 2nd overdrive gear ration of .61. The top gear in the 5-speed Allison is .71. The 2005 W24 will have slightly more pulling power than the 2006 and later W24's if both run in their top gear. Although, all a W24 2006 or later owner has to do is run in 5th gear. The 6th gear should eek out slightly better fuel mileage.

Also, all W24s were rated, by Workhorse, to tow 6000#'s. This is dependent on the capacity of the hitch installed by the coach manufacturer.

If your Workhorse chassis was built before March of 2005 you have Dexron transmission fluid installed from the factory. In 2005 Allison offered to extend their warranty if the owner had their Dexron changed to TranSynd within a set time period. Mine was built in January 2005 so I had TranSynd installed by Allison and I received a new waranty certificate from Allison for the extended warranty. Even though the extended warranty offer is long past I suggest, if your Allison does not have TranSynd, replacing the Dexron with TranSynd. The fact that Allsion offered to extend the warranty for those changing in 2005 tells me that TranSynd is far superior to Dexron. Cost would be ~$300 to have an Allison authorized facility do the change. I had mine done in Ocala Florida by Detroit/Allison.

More than you asked, but good to know.

-Tom

Tom N, reading the last of your post, the last of your post said no mods needed on classic. I had bilstein put on my rig, unless all you do is park your rig, WOW. The old shocks were gone, after just 20000 miles. I could push and pull the old shocks to full length by hand. This shock on a 24000 lbs rig, sorry, workhores went the cheap way

Are you saying your W24 did not have Bilsteins?? My W24 came from Workhorse with Bilstein shocks. I have 21,000 miles on my 2005. Rides and drives great.

What are the first 6 digits of your VIN??

-Tom

Reading Tom's post raises a question for me I thought for sure mine came with Transynd. However, it was built in 2004. It is the 1000 transmission. Does anyone have clarification for me? I can go through all the documentation too. That could have been one more thing the salesmen told me, that wasn't true.

Driver, Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks, better to know and make the change now. I was going through oil analysis companies to pick one to do an analysis, but if I have the Dextron, no need to do that. To know how much I will need to get, do we have the deep or shallow pans?

To the best of my knowledge I believe that we all have the same pans. It would appear according to the pubs that I have, you need 10.6 Qts PLUS ~.4 Qts for a new Spin-On filter.
