What's the function of this?
Changing oil and all that stuff before we take off for OBX. Don't know what to call this, but DH wants to remove it. He says it will keep spark plugs cooler? (Instead of some kind of kit he saw.) I tend to think it's there for a reason, but what do I know? We realize it's falling down and will put it back up if it's serving a needed purpose.
He's also wondering about the suggested gap on the Magnum spark plugs from Brazels.
Thanks!
Cathy (David's research assistant.)

Winnebago probably installed the air deflector to force all the air that comes through the motor home's grill through the radiator to improve cooling .
Removing the deflector could result in higher engine temps.
In a recent post there was info on a revised plug gap , for the plugs I'll see if I can track it down.
BTW: Cathy , if I tried asking my DW to do my typing , I'd be eating cold beans , morning, noon and night for a month.
Thanks for helping him out .
EDIT: Looks like the new gap spec is .045 ,

Previous owner hack. Likely trying to keep air going to the front of the AC condensor then onto the radiator.

I don't believe so. Winnebago installed the same rubber on ours at the factory. With the small grill opening, I imagine it's there to focus as much air as possible through the a/c condenser and radiator.
Can't remember where but I did read that a while back.

I don't believe it is exclusive to Winnie. I have an Allegro with the same rubber piece. It is also going to force cooling air through the ECM. I would re-attach it, as I think it is a very good idea to have. You do not want your ECM to run hot, as that usually shortens the life of the electronics.

It's the factory radiator seal. Reattach it on the top. It has a function.

Unless you want to do a complete air flow analysis on the air that goes from the front to the back. Then you'll find that you need to reattach the seal

Air, just like water and electricity, takes the path of least resistance. The radiator tries to block the airflow. If open around the radiator, the air will flow around the radiator and not through it. By blocking the area, the air is forced through the radiator. DO NOT remove the trim.

Yep, my Newmar has the same.
One other note, from the photo it doesn't look like the tube opening has the extension to move it up out of the incoming path of any water intrusion.

NOPE, my Tiffin has it as well, to keep air from going over top of the radiator, remove it might make the spark plug wires cooler, but your engine/radiator will hate it. (Overheating possibly)
