Just wondering what kind of miles everyone has on there Vortec 8.1 engine.
Just returned from CA.(to TN.) ( Third trip out there) and have just turned over 49,000 miles. Engine runs great so the the Allison 1000. NO need for a Banks system on the baby.

How about throwing in the mileage at the same time for the overall miles? Well, I get 7.3 as an average after 38,000 miles That includes towing a toad sometime and other times a boat. But I'm happy anyway.

5.9 on 10% ethanol gas. 7.0 so far on tank of premium no ethanol gas. I know it's not suppose to make that much difference BUT!!!!
Road conditions about the same, wind about the same (I always have a head wind no matter where I go Slow steady climb up toward Bozeman Mt on the last tank.
Engine runs better on the GOOD gas - I know it's all in my head.

My average is also about 7.3, with Toad; also running genset about 1 hour on a 6 hr trip. And some (not much) dash air, to keep the seals wet. Recently got that ave in NC/SC mountains. Hi 7.7; low 7.2. Low lead 87 of course; no ethanol (yet), tho I did fill up last summer at Forest City (10% Ethanol) . No problems but lower mileage; genset ran ok also. Never used Premium gas.

Your Irish Hunch that the 10% alky blend
of gasoline = rotten gas mileage is exactly
right on. It is NOT just in your head. LOL
Locally, there are gasoline outlets that
actually run ads saying their gasoline contains
NO alcohol. I have noticed a positive gain from
using "real" gasoline.

My last was 6.88 towing my Ranger from Jacksonville Flordia to Florence, Sc. This is pretty flat land and I drove about 65MPH. Think I ran generator for about an hour or two also. Leaving tomorrow for San Antonio, not towing and is about 1300 miles one way. Will try running the coach air via generator and leave the dash air off so I do not have to listen to the fans as much.
I get anywhere from 6.5 to 7.5 depending.

Tom, I have 5649 miles on the 8.1
Runs like a top. Allison perfect.
I'm going to climb homestake pass (Butte, Mt) this am. Probably will drive toad seperate. Off topic but I'm looking forward to the climb.
Got the good gas so it'll go great.
On edit: Total mileage correction 5649

I have 26,500 miles on my 2001.
I don't track MPG. It's a MH (luxury vehicle) and if I couldn't afford it I wouldn't own it!

OK, just my opinion but I think we should steer away from mpg and stick to the original post of how many miles as requested. Sorry RVTEN, that was all my fault.
