Got an appointment tomorrow to have my front wheels re-balanced. As an after thought, I asked how they do the balance. He said they do it with the wheels still mounted on the RV. Is this acceptable?. I'm used to the automobile balance with the wheels off and on a spin machine. Advise pleae!

There are different methods to balance tires on motorhomes. As this time I use a product called "Equal". It's an injected powder that seeks low spots and balances the tire. So far so good.

I had mine balanced at a truck tire service. They pulled the wheels and balanced them on a spin machine.

Actually, balancing them on the motorhome is probably the best way. This not only balances the tire/wheel combination but also includes the lug nuts, valve cap, hub cap/wheel cover, and brake rotor as well.

I had mine done on the MH a few years ago and the tech added so much weight is was absurd. They still weren't balanced until I paid $20 each to have them removed and done properly on a traditional balancer.
When I replaced all of them last year I noticed the fronts had "the powder" and they were the worst.
Of course I had to pay another $20 each to have them properly balanced again.

The "off vehicle" method balances the tire and rim, The "On Vehicle" method also gets the brake drum or rotor and other parts and is superior in my opinion. You are not old enough to remember when they did cars that way perhaps, I am.

I installed the Centramatic balancers on the front about 4000 miles ago. Lifetime velvet ride all the time. Worth every cent.

Did that web site indicate that they are $180 per wheel? It seems like a great idea, but if that is the price, that's a lot of balancings.

Echoing what Driver said, I have used Equal on my last two motor homes. My Ford F53 would only stay balanced with Equal and I decided to have it in the Workhorse tires also. It takes a mile or two to spin up right but really works for me after that.

It takes one pack per wheel. My tire shop did the job for $20 per wheel including the valve.

I looked at the various balancing options several yrs. ago.
The powered some say would gather moisture, the ones that
went between the wheel and hub, rather expensive IMO!!!!
Sand, Golf balls, and some, I dont remember now....

So I was thinking www.innovativebalancing.com
As they are ceramic bead, and not affected with moisture.
The read seems to be the way to go, but I havent gone there
yet!!!! TENN.
