Anyone know the approximate cost to replace a front wheel seal? How difficult is it?
Thanks!

Depends on which seal or seals are bad. Inner will require removal of wheel, brake caliper and hub. If it's on the outside none of that is nessessary.

If you need the brake recall on your rig, get it done then.

Too bad, it's the inner seal. And the brake recall has already been done.
Thanks

It seems as though every time I have a problem its always more complicated rather than an easy fix.

Did they cut or otherwise remove the rotors. It doesn't take much to mess up a seal but it also doesn't cost an astronomical amount of money to replace the seal either. ~1 HR labor should be all plus parts.

I have had both right and left seals replaced. The right side was done during the recall.

Labor cost on the left side at Advanced Truck an Auto Repair in Yuma, AZ
was $127.50.

Labor cost on the right side at Brazel's RV in Centralia, WA was $216.00.

To properly install the seal requires a driver. (special tool)

Hey DriVer,
They did not remove the rotors or resurface them. I suspect, that the seal may have failed because this wheel got very hot at one time before changing the calipers. I would think that a rubber seal that baked will probably turn hard and crack. Only supposition on my part.

In my experience, a seal will leak right away if it's going to do so and the service center would have picked up on that at the time that the calipers were replaced. Are you 100% sure that the rotor was not removed. My inside seals leaked on my previous brake job because they didn't use the Workhorse seals but a CR seal they obtained from NAPA.

I watched their whole process of replacing the calipers and they did not remove the rotors. I'm calling in the morning to see if I can get it in this week.

Streamerman, OK Let us know how that works out.

Did you say if you were leaking on the inside or the outside of the wheel?

The oil is on the inside wheel and rim.

I feel your pain .... That's definitely an inner seal. I had 2 puddles opposite, discovered on the camp site when I was out on Cape Hatteras. I was pretty worried about this but I filled the bearing cup to the average level, kept an eye on it on the way home and I was able to make it back and have it serviced. When you are running down the road (if the leak isn't extreme) I have found that the fluid doesn't really begin leaking out until you stop. The fluid in my hubs took a few hours to leak down.
