When was the first 8.1 made

A friend and I were wondering which one was built first the Ford V10 or the 8.1. and when was the first 8.1 made. Thank You

The GM L18 was introduced in ..... 2001 and it was used in WCC powered motorhome chassis in that year on P32s and the New W-Series. The GM Vortec 8.1L engine was built in Tonawanda, NY.

The Ford V10 2V engine was introduced in 1997 and was built in Windsor, OT. In 2005 the 3V engine was introduced however the 2V continues to be built for the Class C and Econovan products. The F Series Super Duty line all use the 3V engine.

As far back as I can recall Ford motorhome chassis were using the V10. (Of course I was really looking hard at a motorized unit at the time). Workhorse started using the 454 for the 1999 model year and then switched over to the 496 in the 2001 model year.

Many Ford Chassis MHs were powered by the 460 motor until about 1996, when the V-10 6.8 became available.

The '97 Ford chassis was the last of the 460's in MH's. We had a '98 Seaview with a '97 460 in it.

I once had a Suncrest Sunbus 35 ft class A 1995 with a 460 ford and a three speed auto trans. it could barely get up hill with a legal weight and was always the last one to get to the top. The banks unit and the gearmatic made a decent coach out of it though.
I had a Georgie Boy class a 31 foot with a chev 454 and a three speed. it was geared a little closer to it's size and weight and went up hell pretty good.
The Vortec 8.1 in my current class a does a great job of going up hill and gets an average of 8 MPG doing it. Now that I got brakes, i am a happy camper one more time. Bebop
