Just returned from a trip, problem going and comming in the first 15 miles, motor home started pulling to the right, smelled brake smell, taped brake pretty hard, motor home quit pulling, smell went away. This was the first time this had happened, and did not happen again the whole 200 mile trip. I called the service center, they said the parts were not available yet and we would be notified when they were in stock.
Question what should we do, not going anywhere in the motor home, untill the parts are replaced or try some type of repair. Seems like I read about removing the caliper, cleaning, and lubing?
Please advise.
Johnnie

Johnnie: For starters, please read the notice linked above in sticky #3. Here: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f22/workh...ice-52546.html
For additional info and pictures please take a look at sticky #1
I believe yours is the first report of getting a hanging caliper (if that is what you had) being released by hitting the brakes pretty hard. Glad it apparently worked for you. Ed

Park it like the rest of us have done until parts are available, and enjoy the egg on your face!

I can't speak for everyone else but I have not parked mine. I just carry the intrim notice directions on what to do if I have a current problem and drive with my same defensive manner. I don't believe I have any reason to have egg on my face. I'm happy with my MH purchase and believe the brake problem will be resolved.

I am told there is a manufacturer that supplies "NEW" calipers to replace the Bosch 66mm calipers. About $125ea. They claim to have a slightly larger bore diameter to prevent piston sticking. Don't know much more but they have been used for a couple years as replacements on around town delivery trucks and some rv's. In So. Ca. area.
I will get more info. It is an alternative to waiting for Bosch to come through.

I talked to one supplier in Ohio today. Can't find the local one to me for some reason. Must have something to do with the stupid tattoo on my forehead. Anyway Mill Supply inc. Has them. Stepvan Parts for Stepvans. page 32 bottom right. $116.00each + shipping. I am sure there are more suppliers around the country. And these are new not rebuilt. I checked my casting #'s and they compare. Look under international not workhorse.

Mfire... Are these "Stepvan" calipers the same as we have now for W22's made by Bosch, or some other brand? I'm assuming if they are the same casting number they are the same as we currently have and will fail eventually as ours have.
I am interested in the "NEW" ones mentioned in an earlier post though. Perhaps they would be better.
Thanks

Steamerman, The ones I mention are not made by Bosch, But a copy. They claim to be a direct replacement for the Bosch casting number. Also different seal material and piston clearance.

Are they made by Bosch? If not, do these aftermarket calipers have the phenolic pistons?, If so I'd guess they are the same. I doubt anyone would want to copy that design now. If they have some kind of steel piston, I think I would try them.
If I owned a W 20 or 22, I would seriusly be thinking that I may have to solve this problem myself, or pass it on to the next poor guy who buys it.
IMO, WH can't afford to fix it and Bosch is being too silent and selling out. It does'nt take that long to build some steel pistons and start replacing them but it seems the only optimistic news from WH is coming from Driver, and he can't do it himself.
Bosch could easily just get out of the RV brake business and keep going with their other ventures. However, watching their reputation go down the tubes, this has to be devastating for WH.
