Where's This Coming From?

Have a W22 chassis and on our way to Ohio from Arizona. I noticed this a day ago on my passenger side steer tire. Wiped the wheel clean and it's back again today. Took the hub cap off and the bearing oil level in OK and the fill plug is intact. Crawled under the coach and did not see any evidence of oil on the tire or wheel. So I am stumped as to where this oil is coming from. Do I have a slow seal leak? Appreciate your input?

Check your brakes, wheel cylinders, hydraulics etc. Bearings still a possibility.

The six bolt axel seal is leaking, check the vent hole in the red plug. When the red rubber plug gets old the little hole swells shut and won't release the pressure from heat from driving. Centrifugal force combined with a few pounds pressure push's the 90weight out through the paper gasket.

Tighten the bolts on the cover, that is what I did when I had the same symptoms.

But don't tighten too much or the clear cover will break

In my opinion, "There's too much fluid in the bearing cup." The fluid level should be just on or slightly below the fill to line on the bearing sight glass. "Final answer!"

Ok so based on all the great input I did a little experiment. Yesterday before we left I swapped the rubber plugs in an effort to see if the problem moved from the passenger wheel to the drivers wheel. It did not. The passenger wheel still had the star leak pattern So I'm assuming the breather hole is open in both plugs. Per Drivers comments I checked the level in both cups and they are below the fill circle. Tonight when I arrived at the campground I carefully tighten the bolts on the cup. They weren't loose but I snugged them maybe an eighth of a turn. Tomorrow another 300 mikes and I'll check again and report. Thanks for all the feedback.

As posted above I re-tightened the 4 bolts holding the cup to the wheel. They were already tight and I only snugged them by an eighth of an inch at most. Drove the remaining trip home and by golly no oil spider web so that must have been it.
Going to keep a close eye on this. Thanks for the support.

It is amazing what a little oil leak can look like.
