Driver... I'd like to vote, but it seems a little premature, until one gets a chance to see and feel the difference in these engines.
Also, your poll question brings up the 6.0 Litre with more HP and more Torque and great fuel mileage than the 8.1L???
It seems everyone would want this engine if this is the case.

More Power, More Torque...Not!
6.0L Vortec Max = 345HP and 380lb-ft
8.1 Vortec = 340HP and 455lb-ft
I wish people (DriVer) would get facts straight before inadvertantly organizing a campaign of mis-information.

I'm that tried and ture big block user - have 2 454s in my boat and would never give up the 8.1 in the motorhome.

GM is going to continue to make the 8.1L until 2010 & an extremly reliable source with the initial's of CC told me Workhorse will continue offering it until then.

Interesting, makes you wonder if that did not have a lot to do with the UFO. Smaller engine higher rpms. What is going to happen with the workhorse from Workhorse? That will be a sad day. Put perhaps by that time we will have a 545, oh ya. I can dream.

In the meantime I have had conversations with other guys that indicate that the 8.1L will go forward until 2010 however the plant that makes the motor is old and it would seem that GM isn't going to be putting a whole bunch of money into an old plant.
The 6.0L on the other hand with the appropriate hardware can make more than 340 horse and 455 lbs/ft of torque.
A cup 358 cu in motor makes 770HP and 530 lbs/ft of torque. Now that's a 5.8L carbureted engine.
A 6.0L engine providing 400 horsepower and 500 lbs/ft would not seem to be totally out of the question if someone is committed to doing it.
Remember the lil' ol engine that could the 3.8L V-6 Turbo Buick GN? Given the advancement in engine design and technology I can see a small block with more HP and torque in the not too distant future.

Ok Mikey,
Cup cars don't pull houses around and niether do buick Grand Nationals. Most Motorhomers don't want to run at 8000 rpm pulling a hill either. What I think is going to happen is GM is going to build a V10 Big block chevy on the 8.1L platform IE same baore and stroke just two more slugs and holes. This would make a 620 Ci Torque monster that should get diesel pusher type mileage.Remeber the Diesel engines in 2007 and beyond are going to be detuned for smog regulations.

Well, I wished they'd hurry and get'er built. In about another 3 or 4 years I figure I'll upgrade to something new. I like the idea of the rear pusher (gas or diesel). And if they do have a V10 built off the reliable 8.1 block, that's what I'd probably go for.

By the way "FrontRangeRVer" is the W22 License Plate for real?
If it is, darn, I wished I'd thought of it. I guess I could upgrade to a W-24 or a UFO and grab that license special plate.
