Thanks for the thoughts.
Diesel fuel doesn't deteriorate the same way gasoline does so I don't really see too much value in Sta-Bil for diesel BUT diesel does have issues with microbial growth, sometimes commonly known as “diesel algae”. The growth is caused by specialized bacteria, yeasts & molds which consume diesel and form a dangerous slimy goo in your tank. So, I'm a fan of using a biocide such as Biobor JF Diesel Treatment or Power Service Bio-Clean. We use this everytime our RV needs to "sit" for a while. Put it in the engine beforehand & drive the last leg + run the generator for an hour or so before you hit camp/storage. That gives it time to get distributed through the engine. It also helps to store your RV with a FULL tank of fuel (less moisture/air for microbes to grow).

Go straight to Wally World and get a couple of bottles. I use if often, especially in the winter time, it's a really good product.. JMHO.

2 great points.

For ME....

I always fill the tank up if it will park for more than a week. This reduces the chance for moisture to form and that is where you get the best chance for the development of diesel algae.

If I will park it for more than a month I then use a one time biocide shock treatment.

I also use STABIL diesel fuel treatment if I will park for more than a month.

Both the biocide and STABIL or put in the tank before I fill it up. I drive it for about 20 minutes afterwards along with running the generator. This gets it mixed up and flowing into the fuel system.

The other thing I did this year was add a fuel conditioner to the last fill up before I parked it. The reason was that when I fueled it up the last time I am certain I was getting a summer blend. I am parked until about Nov 30th so I wanted to protect my fuel system from gelling if we hit a really nasty cold spell before then.

I use Lucas upper cylinder lubricant. It recommends a full "small" bottle (about $11-13.00 size) per 100 gal but I use about 1 cup (1/4 of the bottle per 100 gal).
2 years ago my neighbor at a campout was annoyed at my snorting generator and offered me some. I was hesitant but tried it. 20 minutes later my generator purred. I also noticed my engine brake worked smoother and the engine responded smoother. It is a 2007 Cummings 400.
I wouldn't be without it.
Hope that helps.

Quote; My question is, I don’t intend on driving it for probably 6 more months so is it too late to use Sta-Bil or should I go ahead and put it in now?

Well first off, yes, i use it and I use it in anything that burns gas and is going to be sitting for more than 60 days, Todays Gas SUCKS, They took all the goodies out of it and still want to charge you up the back door an arm and a leg, Stay-bil is what use to be in gas years ago for under a dollar a gal.
