My wipers recently would not turn off. Pulled the fuse and was able to stop at the factory.
Within 10 minutes they diagnosed a short in the switch on the steering column.
Switch replaced and wipers are doing what they are supposed to do.
One thing that was obvious. After the new switch was installed, the switch controls were tighter,,,,enough to notice the difference.

That has been a problem on a lot of WH chassis including mine. I'd almost bet it's going to happen again. The problem on most has been the plug under the hood that connects to the wiper motor get soaked and the water keeps the electrical connection on. I put saran wrap all around the plug and taped up the ends to try and seal out the water. But just in case that doesn't work I installsd a 50 amp toggle switch with an inline 20 amp fuse straight out of the fuse box. That will stop them without having to get out and unplug the connection to stop them.

The wiper motor and plug are not Workhorse parts and there could be as many as a dozen diffenent hook-ups since those are chosen and installed by the body builder. These problems are not unique to Workhorse, anyone can have these types of problems including Ford, FCCC and Spartan.

Mike, I don't want to make this an agrument, but if it's a coach builder problem, why do so many, if not all, manufacturers have this problem?

Fred, I just want to say that I don't believe that an argument is possible since it it likely that this is not at all a chassis problem. All that WCC provides is a modular plug where the coach builder integrates that system into their coach. The only control over the wiper system that WCC provides is the stalk on the steering wheel. The stalk is most likely a common part found in most all HD GM trucks. I could be wrong but I believe it's a Delco switch.
If you had an opportunity to see a bare chassis you would see the point I am pursuing. I'm not saying that a problem could not exist in the connectivity between the stalk and the motor, it would just take a good tech to sort through the issue.

Here is a link to another thread on this same subject: Wipers would not shut off
Please look at post # 8 for a picture of the special 3M tape which is designed to seal out moisture. I bought a roll at Home Depot for ~$10.00 and, being pro-active, I applied it to my harness to wiper motor connector. I have not had a problem with my wipers even during some serious T-storms while driving. Ed

I had the same problem, started when under warranty. WH repair facility replaced control module and it seemed ok until next time driving in the rain. This time I was out of warranty and this time they said it was bad wiper motor. Well, I am an electrician and also have always done most repairs to my vehicles. I took wiper motor apart and found it was ok (dc motors are very simple). I sealed all openings on motor and have never had this problem since then (4 years). The problem with these wiper motors is water getting into the motor, not into the connector. It's still up to you what you want to do with it, but this worked for me.

bcovey, Thank you for sharing your experiences with DC wiper motors.

I had the same experience as y"all. I rerouted the wiper wiring on my W22 chassis, Bounder 2004, up over the box nearest the wiper motor, problem solved

Ditto on wipers not turning off in the rain. Mine went to high speed. Sealed the connection, then sealed the openings in the motor. That solved the problem like the other posts above. On the road, I had to remove the fuse until it dryed out prior to the fix.
