I saw my dealer this evening while out to dinner - he told me that Workhorse is not making anymore units and he can only get Ford's from Winnebago (they are an Itasca dealer).

According to him they were bought out by Navistar (which we knew) and they are shutting it down.

Anybody know???

I doubt they are eliminating the Workhorse chassis, they just don't currently have a gas engine to put in them. They will have a Workhorse Chassis with the Navistar 7.3L diesel available in the lower end Winnebago and Itasca Models (those below the Adventurer and SunCruiser - The Adventurer and SunCruiser will be available on a Freightliner FRED Chassis in the mean time). I've heard they are testing a new gas engine but no details have been released.

Either your dealer is sadly misinformed, or you did not hear what he "meant" to say. Navistar did not pay millions for Workhorse to shut them down. It is true they are not currently producing RV chassis with a gas engine due to GM stopping production of the 8.1L motor. WCC has not publically announced what gas engine they will use in the future. However, they are building the W-20D and the W-22D chassis using the MaxxForce 7 diesel engine made by another Navistar company called International Truck and Engine Co. The W-20D is currently the exclusive chassis under the new Four Winds Serrano.

Workhorse also produces commercial chassis for the delivery truck market, and folks like Fed Ex and UPS buy them, which helps keep the assembly line in Union City, IN humming along during these tough times in the RV markets.

Meanwhile, the coach builders have Ford' F-53 chassis with the V-10 as the only GAS powered chassis available in addition to the FCCC Fred. Rumor has it that Ford will be going away from the V-10 "next year", but I've not seen an official announcement as to what will be its replacement, either.

My hearing is just fine thank you - I know what he meant to say as he said it in front of my whole family - with gestures as to Navistar shutting WH down.

So perhaps he is mis-informmed eh?

Rocket Heart: Please accept my apology if my poor choice of wording offended you. I was not questioning your ability to hear.

However, if your dealer is actually claiming that Navistar is shutting down Workhorse, then I will stand by my assertion that he must be "sadly mis-informed". In addition, I think he should be ashamed for spreading such a rumor. Since you have chosen to bring this info here, please post the name of the dealer. Maybe somebody will be able to clear up his confusion about the future of Workhorse.

If I am ultimately proved wrong, then I'll apologize to your dealer as well, but I sincerely don't think my apology to him will become necessary. ED

I totally agree with you as to Workhorse not being shut down after getting on their site and checking out what they are saying - as far as my dealer is concerned - he has a tendency to be a tad pompus - I normally deal with his son - a more likeable chap.

And yes I was offended as to your reference to my hearing and understanding - I thank you for your apology - it takes a real gentleman to do that.
