Won't start when hot

My father-in-law has a 2001 Adventurer and it starts great when cold but not when it hot. He has to really spin the starter a lot to get it going once its hot. He lives near Hope, Arkansas which is an hour from Texarkana and 2 from Little Rock. Does anyone know of a repair shop that will work on the workhorse?

Thanks in advance,

It could be a fuel pump or a vapor lock problem. Any Chevy mechanic could work on it, I'd start by testing fuel pressure and check that the fuel line doesn't pass too close to exhaust or manifolds that might be 'boiling' the gas. Call around local garages and see if anyone is willing to tackle it. It doesn't have to be a Workhorse shop.

Thanks, I think he tried that and can't find anyone close by that will work on an RV. That's why we are asking if anyone around knows of someone who will.

classic fuel pressure regulator failure symptoms

'01 should be an EFI 8.1L engine.....fuel press reg is on the fuel rail on top of the engine...looks like a thimble...has a thin black plastic safety drain hose coming off of it.

the rubber diaphragm breaks cause fuel to run down the hose to the intake manifold flooding plugs....

there should be NO fuel in the hose so if you run the engine turn it off n see if you get even a single drop of fuel....also you can wrap a rag around the hose attachment point n crank the engine for a second or two n turn off quickly...there should be NO gas on rag....if there is press reg is bad.

another tip off is if you get it started easier when hot if you hold accerelater all the way down [like the old carburater days].....

another tip is that if it restarts up when hot if restart try is immediately or within a minute.

this is an extremely easy thing to fix with just a screw driver......I am sure there are step by step videos on this on youtube.....part should be 125$....I got mine from autozone tho they had to order it.

worst hard to start symptom should be 3-20 minutes after shut down.

also its the fuel press reg not vapor lock if you start it up cold let run for 2 minutes, turn it off and try to restart in 5 minutes and it won't start.......vapor lock could not occur with a not-hot engine, while leaky pressure diaphram will.

also vapor lock is associated with carbureted engines more not injected engines.

It helped!

Thanks to your information, he found out the plastic line had melted and replaced it with a metal one.

Thank you again!
