We bought a 2005 Damon Intruder 391 with a WORKHORSE CHASSIS with 2284 miles. In 2007 at 21799 miles the AUTO PARK BRAKE applied on its own going down the highway! The coach swayed and jumped and trowed us foreward and smoke was coming from the back of the coach! The coach went from 65mph to 0 in seconds. And it stalled the motor. We didn't know what was happening! It scared the hell out of us! We called WORKHORSE and they had us take it too a Workhorse authorize dealer to get repaired. The AUTO PARK BRAKE applied THREE more times,( 2008 33350 miles,2010,53206 miles,2011 59895miles) And in 2009 (42002miles) after parking the coach THE AUTO PARK BRAKE would not hold! We took it toSuburban Auto Group in Sandy OREGON they had to replace the AUTO PARK BRAKE assembly and more. WE FEEL THAT THE COACH IS TOO DANGEREST TOO DRIVE ANYMORE, EVEN WHEN IT IS FIXED! We filed a complaint with NHTSA and waiting.
We need any advice that you can give us. Or anyone with the same problem and got it figured out. Or a good lawyer!

I agree. I would be scared to death to drive it after even the first time, much less the second... and, I'm glad you nor anyone else was hurt during these sudden braking maneuvers. I wonder who the courts would have held at fault if there were?

If you can find someone that knows what they are doing, you can get this Rube Goldberg piece of crap fixed. I was a service mgr. and tech. My 1995 airstream did the same thing. I got the service manual and learned how the system worked. This is the only way to fix it. Throwing parts at it will just insure it happens again. The #1 reason I bough a ford this time, is that sorry A** brake.

I know your pain wont with the sudden stop but with the sudden roll away as the brake let loose. Oldusedbear on this forum has all the info, fixes and help. On how to maintain, adjust and fix this system. I have all his emails from when he walked me through my fix and he saved me about 3k in repair costs. He even has a design for an in use system diagnostic light setup that will tell you before the system fails. PM him or me and I will send you what he sent me via email

djohns3500: I'm sorry to read about all the trouble you have had. I am ASSUMING your coach uses a W-24 chassis because of it's size. The good advice being offered you here regarding "oldused bear" is correct, but his specialty is the J71 AAPB and I'm thinking you have the later model AAPB called J72. You can check the "SPID code" label on your coach to verify which you have.
We don't hear of very many episodes of failure of the J72, and multiple failures are even more rare, but I'm sure that is of no comfort to you. I can only suggest you have a workhorse ASC contact their Regional Service Manager and ask for his help in getting this thing fixed "once and for all".
You may also want to call Brazel's in Centrailia, WA and ask if they have a replacement unit available. I seem to remember they developed a unit to replace the J71. Good luck, Ed
