I had a leak on my 2002 W-22 where the axel plate bolts to the rear end housing. There isn't a gasket just RTV sealant.

The axle seal at the hub is most often repaired or installed using a suitable silicone based sealant from Permatex or others. A physical gasket is not typically the common method to repair the leak.

Good advice so far. Silicone sealant is the recommended fix. We have some cellophane axle flange gaskets in our parts room but WH says not to use them.

Do check your vent, just to be sure. Unless you offroad a lot, it's doubhtful it's plugged though.

Sometimes simply tightening the axle flange bolts or nuts works wonders.

Thanks for all the info. Went to Harber Freight and bought a 3/4 drive socket set to get the wheel liner off. The tool suplied by Coachmen just don't work. Will try tightening the nuts first. If that dont stop it I will pull the axel and go with the silicone. I assume I need synthetic gear oil to refill the differential ?

Yes, synthetic gear lube SAE 75W-90 GL-5, Emgard2984 (from page 48 of the workhorse manual).
The manual is 21,000KB in size - let me know if you want me to send you a copy or you can go to the workhorse site and download one - very handy to have. It is in .pdf format.

I puled the wheel liner and tightend the axel nuts. each one turned about one half turn. It appears the leak is stoped. It does have what appears to be a thin plastic gasket rather then the RTV. Thanks for the info.

A day late and a dollar short .... I would mention that tightening those bolts should be done in a star pattern.
