Hey Folks, Well after waiting three years I finally have new brakes on my W22. I've only driven the rig 130 miles since having them done so it's a little early to report how they are doing. I would like to hear from everyone who has had the recall done and exactly what had to be done on your rig, On mine I replaced the calipers, pads, two sensors and had three rotors turned. It took them about three hours to do the work. I also want to hear about any recommendations you might have. I hope to see many of you at the Hatteras rally in October. Jerry Newberry

Hey peskyfeller, Congrats on the new brakes! We've only had our rig since May and have had no brake issues (yet) but I am anxious to get the new calipers just for peace of mind. Did you get a letter from WH or did you just schedule the work done on your vin? I am still waiting to hear from WH.

What price did you pay for the work over and above the calipers. Was any
of the parts replaced or repaired due to cal damage?

Hey and thanks for the question. I've had my ear to the wall on the recall for three years or so. When I learned my guys had the parts coming in I knew the recall was coming soon and I just jumped right on it. Sometimes it helps to listen to the rumors and follow up.

I picked up my coach today. Campaign No 51101-C is complete. The new brakes feel great! Thanks to the good folks at Redlands. They're number one in my book.

Just picket up the rig from Monument Chevrolet in Pasadena, TX. I tried one hard stop and everything was OK. They put new pads on the rear for $88 + tax. They had over 30 K miles and the front had only about 3 K miles. They switched out my speed bleeders for me at N/C. I'm happy?

Lloyd, I had an appointment to bring it in Wednesday at 3 PM and was called Friday at 8:30 that it was ready. That's the turnaround time. When you get in depends on where you are on the list.

Had mine done at Monument Chevy. Droped it off on Tuesday Morning and Picked it up Thursday afterNoon. Had the 4 calipers replaced at N/C but it was time to have the Fluid Flushed so I did that also for $100. It was susposed to be done Wednesday but I was having new tires put on and the 1st ones they received were the wrong load range so they had to send them back and get others. In any case the brakes seem to be doing fine.

From what I heard the recall comes with 3 qts of fluid and the instructions say to drain 2/3 of the fluid, so you paid $100 for a qt of fluid and another 2 minutes labor to let the remainder of the fluid drain. A bit pricey if you ask me!

FT, The recall comes with 2 quarts of fluid and during the recall 2/3s of the fluid is drained off. Flushing the system takes time and I expect that's all he paid for plus $~10.00 for more fluid. It does seem a bit pricey as you said but if he's happy I good with it.

I agree with Driver. Since I didn't think clearly when having the recall done "I was recovering from 3 broken ribs and was sick" I didn't ask for a complete flushing. As soon as I started driving back home I noticed my pedal was soft and it took more braking to stop. I decided it was because the ABS had not worked in three years and I was just going through an adjustment period. I had asked the mechanic why he gravity bled the system and he told me that was the protocol Workhorse prescribed for the caliper replacement. I assumed "hate that word" all the fluid was replaced but was concerned that during the gravity bleed the caps were off the master cylinder a long time in a very humid environment. Brake fluid is hydroscopic and loves to absorb water: Brake fluid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I do not like the idea of any old fluid being left in my system and don't fully understand why Workhorse would want to chance water or non compatible fluid being left in the system. I plan to flush my brakes when I'm up to climbing under there. I don't plan any trips until the Workhorse Rally in October anyway. I strongly recommend that everybody insist on a complete brake flushing when you have the recall done and don't just settle for the gravity bleeding. If you have to pay a little extra do it.http://www.irv2.com/forums/images/smilies/dance.gif
