I stopped and filled the fuel tank and drove a short distance. Outside the coach I smelled Gas.

Found gas dripping (quart per hour)from tank plug on the passenger side. Would it be the hose clamp? No luck the screw was on the top of the chassis, Just remove the coach to access.

Hose was crack though,Parts man thought it looked like RAD hose.

Chassis has a build date of June 2008. Aprox 5800 miles 22 months old. Something is not to spec. Quality control, fuel system MVSS standards??

On the fill side the hoses looked OK and the scew clamps face down to be serviced

Fix - drain gas to eliminate dripping in face
- place wet rag around plug
- grind off the clamp with 1 inch dia wheel/ air grinder
- cut off the steel bar covering the side of the access hole in Frame
- find a 2 1/2 long by 1 3/4 I.D. fuel filler hose at Car Quest Part # 23968 @ $1.47 per inch.
- 2 -2 1/2 inch stainless steel screw clamps.
- 6 hr of time

Your chassis is still under warranty, why not let Workhorse fix it? And if it is an inappropriate part, they will find out about it and issue a recall.Just wondering!

Sometimes it's easier to just crawl under it and fix it yourself rather than call the dealer for an appointment, wait 6 weeks for the appointment, take time off work to drive to the appointment, want 3 weeks for them to actually work on the problem, take time off work to go pick it up afterward, hope the fixed the actual problem...

I have never had to wait for an appointment (Workhorse Service Center) and the longest they have ever had my RV was 7 days.

lakewoodpaul, In the past Workhorse was shipping the fuel system as incomplete however for the past couple or maybe 3 years, Workhorse has been shipping the fuel system complete. If we are discussing the alt. fill cap, that should have been installed in Union City. When the chassis leaves the plant, the pump is in the tank and gasoline has been added to drive the rail around during the assembly process.

The filler neck is installed on the tank complete with a gas cap. During the assembly process that might get disassembled, changed or modified.

I had the very same thing happen 1 week ago. I have a 2009 Monaco (built in 2008). I spoke to a tech at Workhorse (just to let them know they may have a problem) who told me they had not heard of any others having this problem. The tech said she would alert others at Workhorse and Monaco (Navistar) about the potential problem. The tech also thought Monaco was the one who would have put the hose w/plug on the gas tank.
I wonder how many others are affected and just don't know yet.
If you are interested in contacting the tech I spoke to: Chris Hines 877-246-7731 ext. 225

Did you do the repair? Was the screw facing up so you had to cut the clamp?

Yes the clamp was turned up. Obviously the hose was put on before the house. I was able to reach up with a pair of channel-lok pliers and carefully turn the hose a little to barely reach the screw.
I sent Workhorse (per their request) the hose. Not much left of the hose, it almost dissolved from the gas exposure. They (Workhorse) seem to be interested.

There are several gas stabilizers for marine tanks/engines, is this something we should be thinking about and if so with every tank or only when storing? How long should a tank of gas be allowed to sit with no stabilizer?

I talked to Carl B at Workhorse (248 588 5300) and he wants my old hose back. Will send.
Carl indicated the plug & hose is supplied to them by the tank mfg. It is to meet Fuel line hose spec (ie capable with gas ,ethanol, ect). I hope Workhorse can analyise the hose and find the root cause. Maybe Dirver can post the final results on IRV2?

Checked the Fill side hose/ pipe/ hose and it looked ok with no leaks.

Will send the receipt for the hose to confirm repair with Fuel hose..

Carl indicate the coach mfg supplies the Fuel fill hose, pipes, and clamps. The coach builder then asm the fill hose to the coach and tank. Makes sense as many bodies are different.

Whaler, with gas dripping and hopping it was the hose clamp I thought it was the prudent thing to fix it now than make a appointment. Plus the cost and time to deliver it.

If I hear from Carl, I'll let you know although I expect that he would respond directly to you, the customer.

I heard from Carl today. He said he would not need my sample as they had enought of them returned. He said he will let me know that the test results are on the rubber hose that they received.
