I was just poking around on workhorse.com and I happened to come across a new product I believe.

What for all intents and purposes could in fact resurrect the GMC Motorhome craze, the Workhorse LF72 front wheel drive, low floor chassis looks like it could certainly fill the bill.

Take a look for yourself over at: LF72 Low Floor Chassis Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.

OK folks, Here's the POINT!

Finally, you can specify a true low floor chassis and still purchase the body that meets your requirements. The LF72 from WCC is the only front-engine, low floor platform built specifically for the bus industry. The chassis ships from the factory nine inch step in height - seven inches with kneeling option. This means no expensive modifications that risk the chassis structure. It's ready for a body upon delivery. Plus, the LF72's wide body, light weight, robust construction and air ride suspension are unmatched in the industry.

Here's the kicker ....

Gross Vehicle Weight rating: 19,000lbs.
Front: 8,000lbs.
Rear: 12,000lbs.
5.13 front axle ratio
6.6 Liter 210HP/510ft.lbs. Torque, Duramax Front Diesel Engine
Allison 1000 Series Transmission[/list]If I were an RV concept builder I would consider buying one of these chassis, fitting a wide door in the side or back of the coach with a wheelchair lift or a ramp, and making RVs for handicapped persons that may be either wheel chair bound or in mobility chairs. Finally mobility challenged people can buy and own motorhomes. They drive cars already so this I believe would be an excellent solution.

Going with my original thought, a light weight, front engined/drive low profile RV could again surface like a GMC motorhome type with what I see would be very little effort. GMC motorhomes remain very popular and I believe that there would be a market for a motorhome built on an LF72.

Your right DriVer that LF72 chassis could be possibly the start of another GMC motorhome story, like you stated the old GMC's are still very popular coach still today,in fact I believe there are several FMCA Chapters that are exclusive to that brand only, who knows maybe some manufacture or possily a conversion manufacture will pick-up on this chassis.

old thread, but rumour has it there is a dealer that will be rehabbing the actual 73-78 GMC MH bodies and placing them on this chassis. I can't say more

That would be great for the aging group who are rv'ing now. Please take no offence, but there are a lot of bad knees, backs and hips that make climbing into some of the motorhomes painful.

With 6 steps to get into my MH I thought an escalator would be a nice option.

What I do know about the LF72 is that it is very expensive since it's so unique.

I do wish someone would take a second look at the possibility of putting together a coach for folks that are mobility impaired. The "LF" is the key that would make that chassis work. Not only is the LF a low floor but it also kneels.

Modern coach design I'm sure would play a major part in getting all the creature comforts that a person would need. At 19,000 GVW it would seem that it could handle the job.

People that were previously denied the RV lifestyle could now enjoy the same pursuits that non mobility challenged people experience by the thousands.

A vehicle designed with this chassis with emphasis on the successful style of the GMC motorhome coach body could be the next success story in the RV business if it's done right.

There are many of those GMC motorhomes around my area of San Jose, CA. In fact I have one in the storage lot next to me.
Didn't the originals have the tornado front end drive?

Well,
With a LF, I guess a motorhome design would need to have an "attic" for storing all the basement stuff.
