Workhorse re-entering class A chassis market
Didn't see this posted already: Workhorse to Re-enter Class A Chassis Market | RV Business
Quote:
The Workhorse RV chassis line will be an improved design, offering both 6.0-liter and powerful 8.8-liter gasoline engines, coupled with an Allison transmission. The 8.8-liter engine is designed to match diesel towing ability and mileage.

Will be nice to have some competition back in the gas chassis market.

Too bad they didn't release any info on the engine other than size.
Manufacturer and history of the engine would have been nice too.
The only issue , and it wasn't exactly a Workhorse problem, that I had with their chassis was that the W-22 ( 22,000 lbs. chassis ) once it got up in length 33'+, was too light for what the coach builders were mounting on it.
CCC , had a tendency to be low under 1,500 lbs. and under 1,000 on some . The W-24 chassis , would have been a better choice for start up production , if they're only making two chassis for now.
JMHO; Of course.

Have to agree, a little more info would be nice. First year out on a new design is iffy. Third year purchase once the bugs are gone would be a good bet.

Thanks for the post, good to see them coming back into the market.
I don't think they will put the 6.0 in the W22. Not strong enough in my humble opinion. It will probably go in the W16.

I've read this with great interest, glad to see that my chassis is no longer an orphan.

Me too. I, for one, never saw this coming.

Sounds like a good deal. As long as Navistar has nothing to do with them.

Hi:
Great go see Workhorse back in market; wonder who is going to manufacture it?
FWIW. I disagree with writer, SKIP 426, that said the W-22 was too light for units over 33', I have had 37' for over 10 years with no problems.

Just my opinion but it would be nice if they could add 14" to the wheelbase. Our Mountain Aire on the W22 handles and rides great but the added wheelbase would be a plus.
I have to agree with others, it's great to see them back.

Bill: the new owner, AMP, is the company that bought the UC assembly buildings from Navistar and Amp is the one making the announcement.

FWIW, the old WCC made the chassis in WB lengths up to 242". Coach builders decide what WB works under their boxes, and some of them cut and splice the chassis to create the WB offered. My W-24 was stretched to 248" by WBGO.

I hope they put the W24 brakes on the unit.

I believe this is the PSI 8.8L first introduced in 2011.
