I have a new 2010 Pace Arrow on the Workhorse W24 chassis. Occasionally, more often than not, when I start the engine and try to move the shift lever from park to drive I cannot. I step on the brake as I should. To release the lever I have to start and restart the engine several times. Also, on normal occasions the power brake makes a "motoring noise" when applying the brake; this does not happen when the lever is locked. I've been to my Workhorse service and they do not know what is happing...they have contacted Workhorse, and no response yet. Has anyone experienced this? What is the fix ?

Usually, the motoring noise you hear only happens when the engine is shut off and you step on the brake - at least, it seems that way to me.

The problem with not shifting out of park could be related to a faulty brake light switch on the brake pedal.

Take a look here: 1000 Series Owners Manual (PDF) What is the terrain when this typically happens. Is there any incline? Look on Page 42 & 43.

I have used my leveling jacks to help shift the vehicle weight enough to get it out of park.

The following procedure works for me to avoid the problem of not being able to get out of Park. When shutting down I apply the service brake and the parking brake. Then I shift into Neutral. Next I take my foot off the service brake and make sure the parking brake is holding the weight of the coach by itself. Then I shift into Park and shut down.

Yes, I also thought about the brake light switch, however, my experience ,so far, has been to turn the ignition switch on and off until the lever releases.

Thanks for the info regarding the brake pedal mounted switch. It checked to be sticking and was replaced. No more problems (so far)
