I also cut the shrouds' side pieces into two parts on each side and riveted them to their respective shroud edges to insure they cant fall off or get sucked in. This procedure also makes shroud installation much easier.

Today I removed the lower shroud and made a set of spacers to relocate the shroud downward about 3/8 of an inch.
I used and old white plastic cutting board my wife thru out. It is made of polypropolene and seems to be a very tough material.
Simply traced the area of the flange surface on one of the sides of the shroud and locating the three holes. Two holes are for mounting bolts and one is for the alignment peg part of the top shroud. After cutting and drilling the two pieces , I attached them to the bottom shrouds' flanges with a couple of short #6 sheet metal screws.
Reinstalling was easy with the spacers already attached.
Reattached to top shroud with original 1 1/4 X 1/4-20 bolts. Three screws along the bottom edge secure the shroud to the frame. I was unable to use the original "S" clips. However, I am very comfortable with the integrity of these attachments as well as the fingers width of space between shroud and fan blade.
