Amazing forum. Thanks to each who have commented.

Two suggestions to everyone. Identify your rig in each post as some issues are specific to one manufacturer beyond workhorse.

The main confusing issue related to air circulation around the dog house and related to the size of the grill opening as it affected the spark plugs being burnt.

After reading all 96 pages of this forum I think this problem is ONLY with the design of just a few motor homes as some people had no problem. The unknown is which motor homes need additional ventilation.

I have a "new to me" 2004 Allegro Open Road 35 feet with under 14,000 miles. I may ask this question on the Tiffin forum but I am certain that the horn button wiring is a workhorse forum issue.

I am adding an electronic horn that does not want or need the relays or most of the workhorse wiring.

I need to identify the 2 wires which run from the horn and exit the steering collum. I am assuming there are a bunch of them.

Anyone know how I can identify the wires... like a color code?

Look at your fuse panel. See what color wire they are using for the horn fuse. work backwards from there.

The wire coming from the horn button & going out to the horn relay is "Black"

There is only ONE relay wire exiting the column. It is the momentary ground connection for the horn relay via the steering wheel horn button.

anderson2624,

I can't speak for everyone, but I have had no spark plug wire issues on my Tiffin motorhome.

I have a 2004 model Open Road by Tiffin that is on a Workhorse W-22 chassis. It has 42000 miles with original wires and sparkplugs. I purchased it new in Sept 2003.

Wow, that's awesome Dieselclacker, don't you feel a little guilty that you can go 42,000 with the original plug wires when some of us do all these heroic things to cool them and we still burn wires . I had one Taylor 10.4 MM melt in less than 50 miles going across Monarch Pass last July.
I have since added a 2nd fan for the port side of the engine and it hasn't burnt a wire since. Oh, I forgot, I have'nt had the MH on a trip since, but I'm going to soon, I hope.

I think wiring colors vary from one rig on the production line to the next. It depends what the stores clerk puts out on the line when the previous spool runs out. There's little evidence to suggest that they use pre-made wiring harnesses for the house systems on the less-expensive brands.

I think the answer is to be on the safe side. I will be adding extra cooling because there seems to be those who burn and those who do not and no common thread as to the manufacturer. It is obviously a problem sometimes. My history of sometimes NOW is to do everything possible as I have a history of gettin stuck... Last time was several days just looking for rims and tires after two blow outs on a trailer...

Issues like 8.1 engine reduced power and this spark plug thing should not exist. The reduced power, however, I had on my 04 avalanche... step on the gas pedal and nothing happens... after driving for 3 hours at 5 MPH ideling it turns out that if I had shut the engine off and restarted the problem would go away.

Good luck with your Damon...

thanks

On a Workhorse the color of the wire leading from the horn button to the relay is black.

You may be throwing money at a problem that does not exist. Your investment in improving the cooling may not have even addressed the obvious points of failure if the remedy applied is only the cold air vent kit.

In a perfect world, no issues would ever present however even "Rolls Royce" has a service network. Fix the stuff that's broke and don't dwell too much on the stuff that's not. Most issues that have affected an 8.1 can be traced using a Tech II and a competent technician can resolve most of the DTCs that pop-up from time to time.
