I have a 1998 Itasca on a P30 chassis. I have caught a case of the Auto Parking Brake Failure. I have searched and have not found any with the same problem. My APB unit has started blowing fuses. When power is lost, the system does as it should and engages the parking brake. In my case while driving, in heavy traffic, while pulling an enclosed trailer. I was able to get a new fuse to hold long enough to get it off the road. But after a few minutes, the circuit overloads the fuse and we start over. A 15 amp fuse was no better. Advise please. Either all dealers are clueless or they don't want to touch the system with a ten foot pole.

Sounds to me you have a mechanical problem, the auto park system is spring? loaded to lock your drive shaft, and uses hydraulics to unlock it.

I had problems on my pace arrow 1999 it locked the brakes but no short.

my guess is you have a hydraulic leak shorting out the control switch/solenoid,
look underneath your unit for a wet spot some where close to the drive shaft. the wiring isn't far away.

my unit leaked out enough fluid to fail. my dealer replaced the control solenoid.

Good luck, Donny

002: this may not help, but it costs nothing to try, and maybe you'll get lucky. Disconnect the trailer's wiring from the coach wiring and see if you still blow the fuse that is causing the AAPB to lose power and lock up. Good luck, hopefully Roger -OUB- will be able to get to you guys soon.

One of the best purchases I made for my MH was the Workhorse Service Manual CD. It has pages on the Auto Park Brake and various other fix's. I travel with the CD's. I got my CD direct from the WHCC web site. I’ve seen copies on ebay in both paper and occasionally on CD's.

Seems this crazy problematic system would go away with a hand brake!

I have your exact system. First thing to check is wiring harness, for anythng rubbing the harness, causing it to short to ground. Oil will not make it short out. If it will hold for several minutes, it doesn't sound like a relay, pressure switch or pump. The pump shuts off as soon as the brake is released. Follow the wiring all the way to the front, the short could be anywhere. You can seperate the connectors in the harness, then plug things back in, one at a time. The one that causes the fuse to blow is the culprit.

Hadn't thought of the trailer as the problem. Might run that one around. The trailer has been pulled bunches of times since by other trucks, with no problem. But I haven't replaced the fuse in the coach and tired it without the trailer. Worth a shot. All my local service folks who care to comment (which are few) tend to think a rubbed wire shorting out. Keep them coments comming every one is valuable in one way or another. 002

I'll be glad to help if he will email me.

Am wondering if there is a problem somewhere in the system. He sez above he has sent something to me but unless it is under some other name, I've not received anything from OO2.

The same situation exists with Shirkinator. Says he has contacted me but I can find no sign of this. I notice on other threads people are bringing up their problems, and someone always gives them the link to me but I'm not receiving anything from them. I should be available at either oldusedbear@nwtec.com or the oldusedbear link thru oemy's website. Lots of people also have my regular email address which works too - - I don't generally advertise that one for spam purposes but don't mind how people reach me.

Confess that what little expertise we have may be with AutoPark instead of with the internet. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Sure would like to hear from the people that need help tho.

In the same vein, I often get PM's from someone needing help and I send them my email address but don't hear from them again.

Roger: thanks for reaching out to our members. Hopefully everyone will be able to get thru to you.

Just a thought, ...any chance your email is putting "some" into a spam or junk folder instead of your in basket?

More confessions, Ed. I dunno if I even HAVE a junk or spam folder. Don't think I'm running any programs which would do that. I typically do get messages daily thru my two "oldusedbear" email addresses, so I know they work. I'll have to ask my computer Guru guy if there is some folder somewhere full of lost messages.

Once in a while we get the frustration of having people contact us using more than one ID. A guy first posts as Whizzbang88 on a forum. I PM him as such. Give him my internet address. He emails me back as Joe Doaks. I may or may not figure out he is Whizzbang88. Then he emails me from his girlfriend's house with an email address of JoanieandJoey@timbuktu.com. This is not a rare occurrence sadly to say. Confuses hell outta an old goat like me.

Bottom line is we want to get help to EVERYONE who needs it. I worry that communication technology is leaving me behind. I wouldn't know an Ipod from a pea pod if they were both floating in the same bowl of soup.

Roger,
It's probably the email addresses they are sending from. My home and work email accounts will not accept any email from yahoo, hotmail, gmail and many others. Some kind of built in security to keep spammers out. Can't even get email from mom because it's yahoo.

I want to thank you for the help you gave me with my APB and RGS issues in January. System normal and now it's warm enough to adjust the drum.

I paid my bill at a nice Mexican resturaunt about 5 weeks after you helped me. 2 couples and their 4 kids eating at a big table with another soldier in Uniform. Obvious they were all fresh in service, I told the waitress no muss no fuss and not to tell them who paid. Got to tell you it felt good and still thousands cheaper than paying a mechanic!

Hope DW is having more good days than bad and your health is improving as well
