But this really varies.

Maybe WH would like to buy this one to use in an Ad.

or this one.

This one may not be "politicaly correct" at 75 MPH, but not bad mileage for a MH

This one's easier to see, not as good MPG but still would look good in a WH ad.

Oh , average MPG goes down fast.

I did'nt think about taking a pic when I was going up the same mtn that I got 90 MPG,
It would'nt have been a good Ad tho, cause it was reading as low as 3.7 MPG.
Notice all these averages were in about a 50 mile span.
Terribly inaccurate for an average, but somehow it knows when the engine is working hard vs cruising down the hill.

Wife says you must have been a truck driver. I'll give you the benefit and guess you were testing at Bonneville, Utah. Bet you stockpile motor oil!!

Easy, just put it on "auto".

Max,

You must have one of those reverse osmosis fuel tanks that as you get worst gas millage the fuel tank gets more fuller.

Wasn't somebody selling one of those devises on this site? I got to get one of them!

My rig drives surprisingly straight but I would'nt be playing around taking pics if the wind was blowing.
I've been in road construction all my life so I'm used to 'big', but taking the pic is no more difficult than eating a big mac or taking a drink.
This was more in response to an old post , who was pleasantly surprised when his actia said he was averaging 9.? MPG, but I could'nt find it.
It's all connected so I've also seen like 500 miles to empty and 1/2 hr later it said 1300 miles to empty. If yours is more accurate it's probably because you have'nt gone down hill for 20 miles without touching the gas. But I made up for it climbing hills like this , 1st gear, almost pinned , just before bouncing off the rev limiter.

I wish I did'nt have to rev it that high but I still think reving it is better for the engine and tranny than trying to 'lug' it up in a higher gear, probably more economical too.

I never power rev over 3000 rpm. I never engine brake at over 4000 rpm.

You can get some real nice readings going down hill with a tail wind can't you

(Been there, done that)

The Average reading is,, often quite weird as it occasionally resets and divides by zero or near zero. I don't know who the programmer was but he sure did not know math.

Your lucky!
But you won't get over the Rockies. or probably lots of other places.

"You can get some real nice readings going down hill with a tail wind can't you "

That's why I'd like to know what the programmer thought he was 'averaging' for MPG.
Most people on the forum think it's the average for the past 50 miles.
I used to think it was how far you went since a gal of gas passed thru the line but that does'nt even make sense since I did'nt quite go 90 miles on 1 gal.

"The Average reading is,, often quite weird as it occasionally resets and divides by zero or near zero. I don't know who the programmer was but he sure did not know math."

I agree, he must'nt be the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I think Actia should have been more concerned with making a trouble free basic speedometer/ odometer that people over 45 can read without their glasses and forget about the bling bling.

I've never heard of any other vehicle's odometer breaking and you have to park it at the dealer while you wait for it to be shipped back and forth across the country.
I never even got an apology from Wh or Actia when mine had to be done twice.

The way that your cluster attains your avg. mileage readout is just like a ScangaugeII.

It does not physically monitor fuel flow but only bases its calculations off of certain parameters set in the computer, throttle position and load put on the engine. That is why going up a hill it shows 2 mpg and coming down 99 mpg...this method will never be as accurate as dividing miles driven by gallons used but it is fairly close when you consider the way it is calculated.

Max, altho' my coach was 9,000 miles new, my "shakedown cruise" took me thru the Eisenhower Tunnel and over Donner Pass. I am satisfied with driving conservatively as I intend for my running gear to outlast many others. Good luck!!

Nope

But come on guys, how hard is it to hold the steering wheel in one hand and a drink, sandwich or a camera in the other?

TandW , My mh's first trip was across the Rockies and it has the same engine as the rest but only weighs 18,000 LBs. If our rigs could pull it @ 3000 RPM, we'd only be going about 20 MPH. If you could lug it up in a higher gear, I believe you are doing more harm to the engine/ tranny than letting that engine rev and breathe.

What's easier going up a mtn on a bicycle?
Low gear or a higher gear?
