03 Winnebago Brave 34D Overdrive seems to raise rpm by 1k

I just bought this used 03 Winneb Brave 34D and when driving home from purchase noticed that when I put overdrive on that tranny whined and the rpms went up by 1k; is this normal. Thanks for any help you can give me.

It starts out in OD by default and when you push the button you take it out of OD. So yes the RPM will go up.

The tranny whine is a different story. Check the fluid leval in the tranny.

As Subford stated, under normal starting condition, 4th gear (OD) will be commanded. If you push the OD button where it is lit, OD will be canceled and 3rd gear will be commanded. Not sure what you mean by a whine but the noise may likely be related to just the increase in engine RPM and the related engine noise. In 3rd gear, no planetaries are used as this is a direct ratio. The forward, intermediate, and direct clutchs are engaged at this time. The entire rotating assembly in the transmission is spinning at engine RPMs with the torque converter locked up.
