ISLAPP, do you think there's any possibility that Ford will counter the WH UFO chassis by developing one of their own? I sure like tha UFO concept, just wish it were available with the Ford v10. If the UFO proves out, it sure would be an incentive for gas rig buyers to abandon the puller chassis in favor of the rear engine gas pusher. What's your thoughts?

I personally dont think Ford will try to match the UFO. With the problems that Ford Motor company is having in general, I dont see them trying to stay up on top of the class A segment. Then you got workhorse being bought out and their sole goal is the motor home business, I think it will basically be a workhorse market in the next couple of years for the larger units. Ford is still ok on the 22K chassis especially with their new V10 and tranny. The 8.1 is being replaced in the next couple of years I believe. And I think it needs to be inorder to keep up with the large rigs they are being put into.
So we just have to wait and see where all this goes. With the price increase in the diesels and the advent of the UFO and maybe a replacement for the 8.1, I see Ford out of the picture for all practical purposes in the next couple of years
Your thoughts?
Mike

Like someone said "I honestly dont think the changes are all that significant" Just like to know I'm going to get a chassis that hasn't been sitting in the elements. As for the bigger steering wheel. I am mixed on that right now. I have driven vehicles with the bigger one and like it, however, I don't see how the driver seat can swivel 180 with the big one. We'll see. I'll let everyone know my results..

Speaking as an iRV2.com Reporter.....
For you Ford folks let me share this with you. Speaking with a "very senior" representative from a major RV manufacturer at the Louisville Show I posed the question how is your relationship going with Ford?
The person told me that they were very pleased with their relationship with Ford and that Ford has come a long way since they've made some significant "positive" management changes.
The Ford service infrastructure has improved in that the need to have an F53 serviced at a Ford dealership is not as much of a paramount issue as it previously was and Ford may possibly expand their service capabilities to RV dealerships along the same lines as the Workhorse model.
In this manner you can have routine Ford warranty work done in one location rather than coach work at the dealer and chassis service work at another.
The performance of the Ford chassis is respected in the new 07 Ford chassis by the OEM I spoke with and as as always the price point is attractive.
It would seem that Ford will continue to do extremely well in the entry level class A market and will retain a number of current customers in the mid-line chassis up to 22K GVW as well.
That's all I have for you right now ....

Well Mike, that's about how I see it also, unless Ford determines the RV chassis market is worth pursuing and make drastic changes like developing a rear engine gas pusher chassis and maybe offering the powerstroke diesel as an option. I hate to see them abandon the RV market, but for all practical purposes if I were looking to buy another gas powered rig, I would seriously consider the rear engine gas pusher for more basement storage, less cockpit engine noise and a flat cockpit floor.

In general it is great to see the "Ford Chassis" forum picking up more post as we go along. It is the most interesting of the forums to me, a Ford owner, and a very satisfied one at that.

I have a 2007 Allegro 32BA on the 06 Ford Chassis and cannot swivel the seat 180 degrees.
The steering is bigger than the one I had on my 2006 Workhorse (another 2006 moho that I won't mention as it was terrible")

The seat back must be close to 90 degrees vertical. Rotating the seat is very dooable including Ford powered motorhomes.

I dont swivel the drivers seat for that very same reason, unless I have to. It is a pain for me getting it back where I like it for driving then.

Same here. It is not as easy as it should be and it is quite a pain to get it back to that sweet spot where you can be relativly comfortable and see most of the gauges.
A memory setting to bring it into the swivel position and then set it back to where it was would be nice.

I just don't get it guys. I have a Stictchcraft Power Driver's Seat and I have not had any issues swiveling the seat for use as a cabin chair or returning it back to the command position. How are your seats different than mine?

The seat itself isnt a problem, Mike. It's like Neil said, gettin it back to that "Sweet Spot" that can be sorta a pain sometimes. A memory seat would really be cool!!
