I have a 1987 Tioga E-350 460 engine. I broke down, it would run for a about 5 minutes and then just die. I had it towed to a RV repair shop and they replaced the fuel pump in the tank and the fuel filter on the frame. I thought my problems were over and while driving it home it started doing the same thing. I called the repair shop and had it towed back in. They looked at it again and found another filter by the distributor. They replaced that, then it was fine. I drove it home and then decided to look under the hood to see what they replaced. What they did is remove the original filter that was in the line and replaced it with a piece of gas hose. The filter that was originally there was a threaded filter. The threaded ends on the steel line were still there and it also looked like a return line went into this filter also, because the steel return line was left open and not hooked up to anything. Does anyone know if this was actually a filter or is it called something else? This 460 has a carb. I am going to see if they still have the old part. I am worried that this part may have been somthing other than a regular filter?

No it was NOT a filter.
It was the hot gas bypass valve back to the fuel tank to keep it from vapor locking.
It will vapor lock without the fuel Vapor Separator on it.

Your fuel system:

Thanks for the pictures and info. Very Helpful ! The fuel separator is what the repair shop removed and replaced with a piece of hose. I am trying to get it back from them. Do you know if a fuel separator can go bad and restrict the fuel? The repair shop said this part was resricting the fuel?

As far as I know it can not go bad. No moving parts.
But it would be possible for trash in the fuel system to block its operation. If this happens you would need to reverse blow it out with a air hose. It just has drilled orifices of different sizes in it.
