If, for example, the torque converter lock up circuit and or the associated solenoid network is always engaged there would be no transmission slip while the coach is stationary and in gear. About like coming to a stop in a vehicle with a manual transmission but forgetting to engage the clutch.

Another problem would be if the wrong combination of solenoids are active or inactive when attempting to accelerate from a stop. No telling what gear or even multiple gears are engaged.

I think before you start digging into the internals of the transmission check all the wiring around the engine and transmission. During the four year nap could have had critter or two that used a harness to floss with. A chewed harness will cause all kind of strange problems between shorts and opens.

Would a shorted/broken wire to the shift solenoid cause these same symptoms. Anybody know how to test the wiring harness for shift solenoid? By the way what controls the solenoid (PCM) ?

I am probably wrong but would not putting the vehicle in gear without a clutch cause a noise of gear grinding and if it got into gear cause the vehicle to pull forward before the engine stalled out.

On standard transmissions gears are physically moved into each other and will grind, when not meshing.

On automatics, the engagement is thru wet clutchs that engage planetary gear sets that are aways meshed. No grinding.

On some failed automatics, you could get a pull foward, or reverse, when the shifter is moved but with electronic controls, it may just shut the engine off.

Air filter needs to be replaced, then look carefully at intake plenum and vacuum hoses.

Hook up a scan tool and see if any codes are being set.

an update, i changed the solenoid pack, no benefit. Someone told me to disconnect the wire harness and drive in 1 and R, it works just fine. Tracked all the wiring from transmission solenoid to PCM. all wires are OK. Checked fuel pressure today 0 on turning the switch to on position, 28 on idle and that to goes up very slowly, on reving the pressure drops does not increase, drove the RV in gear 1 , barely got up to 35. Going to release fuel pump now. please help. Thank you. Do you guys think PCM needs to be changed?
